If I had a choice of Puerto Pollensa or Playa de Muro, it would be Pollensa every time. Have stayed in both, and while younger families seem to love the Alcudia area, I found I missed the promenade strolls after dinner.
In Pollensa we stayed at the Pollensa Park, and it was a good half mile into into town, but you don't notice it when you are strolling beside the sea. In Playa de Muro you had to walk along/ cross a very busy main road out of sight of the sea. Alcudia was a 10 minute taxi ride, and was really crowded in the evening.
The beach is probably better in Alcudia, as part of the Pollensa beach is man made, but it was still a lovely beach with good bathing- no stones in the water!

We stayed in the Hotel Uyal in May and found it to be a lovely hotel within a good walking distance of Puerto Pollensa.

PP itself is wonderful with the lovely Pine Walk and the square where there are plenty of bars and cafes.

Check out http://www.puertopollensa.com for lots more information!

Difficult choice as we have always found Iberostar hotels excellent and there are loads in and around Alcudia.

I know! I'm tearing my hair out trying to decide. Is PP close to alcudia, or if not, is there easy access by bus etc?

The Iberostar hotel looks great, but im thinking PP is a better location.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Any more opinions would be welcomed

Puerto Pollensa is close to Alcudia and there is a bus service between the two resorts.

It's just a question of what you want from your holiday. In my opinion PP has it all and I have been going since 1996. PP is quieter than Alcudia but has still got lots going on.

Hope you enjoy yourself wherever you go!

Have just read your comment:

"I dont like a lot of nightclubs etc, but do like a choice of restuarants and bars nearby.

Im also thinking of the hotel uyal, which has good reviews and ive heard peurto pollensia is gorgeous. "

Well, Puerto Pollensa definitely fits the bill. There is plenty going on in the ways of bars & restaurants, sitting in the central square, visiting the Wednesday market, people watching, walking along the front, sitting along the front & admiring the fantastic view. Yes you can get a bus into Alcudia - but you may not want to go...

We went on the bus to Playa Alcudia once. Never been back
Alcudia old town (Teatro Romano) is lovely.
