I have been going to Marmaris for the last 9 years and I too was in Marmaris in the last week of June in 2007 and all I can say it I have never in my life been so hot as it was on those days. It was infact inpossible to sit in the sun and spent 2 whole days sitting in the shade and I love the sun. We went to the show at the Mentap during that heat wave one night and they where advising the holiday makers not to stay in the sun in the daytime. I have never heard that happen before.
Maybee there was a lot of talk about the temp being higher than it was but if you was there, Oh boy it did seem a lot hotter that usual.
We went into Antalya city one day - BIG mistake - because the city felt even hotter! We couldn't find where to get the dolmus back to Kemer and had to walk down the busy road by the Migros centre trying to find it! A lovely Turkish man and his little son on a motorbike stopped and told us which road to go to!
I would never go to Turkey in the middle of summer again TOO HOT
Denny
I suspect none of you had experience 109/110f before and it is very hot, too hot to sit in the sun but I doubt even the record for turkey is not 50c and being on the coast is slightly cooler than inland.

The records don't lie, but local people and tourist reading inaccurate thermometer do.
I think we get the picture now cant think of a username
you have stated more than once that you are telling the truth and that most others are talking jobbies re temps.
right or wrong theese people are only saying what they have experienced, to say they are lying is unfair.
You have said that you enjoy weather reading and such likes, so you know your stuff.
I was in south Crete (Ierapetra) June-July 07 and in the shade it was reading 40-47 most days, but Iam sure you will tell me that this is false and Iam just a

there must be quite a few broken thermometer in this world If many people are saying that they have had temps like this also.
I know you are correct in what you say regarding temps, but I dont think that you are correct to say people are lying when they say the thermometer reading was 40-50.
Ive seen one of thoose inaccurate thermometers with my own eyes.
I wonder if the inaccurate thermometer I seen in Crete was the same inaccurate thermometer that others have seen in Turkey ( doubt it), or could it be that they are all mabe by the same company ( doubt it ).
you should get a job on BBC weather mate, you can talk crap just like them.
cheers
ginkster
I don't think anyone is lying, they are just repeating what they are told and these things can get exagerated. I think if people want a truly accurate record of the temperatures they can look it up on the internet. I personally wouldn't be able to tell you if it was 35c or 45c just by being out, I would just say it felt VERY hot.
I dont think anyone is lying either, nor am I , I seen the temp with my own 2 eyes on one of those inaccurate thermometer thingys , HONESTLY
Apperntly heavy rain all morning (has not rained yet ) ( nor did it happen )
Forecast is for more heavy rain (looks fine to me )
No mention of the HIGH WINDS that I have had all morning
So the official stats are wrong...... FACT!
How do I know this ???? Checked the internet for OFFICIAL readings for today and yesterday and guess what!!! WRONG AGAIN..
They are saying Ive got heavy rain, Looking out the window now and all I can see is trees blowing in the wind. FACT!. They must be using one of thoose inaccurate weather thingys. FACT!
Cheers

Go into a gift shop when you are abroad and they ceramica with thermometer on them, look at them and you will a big difference in temp from one to the other and the thermometer in bars and hotels will be basic inaccurate thermometer. thermometers on walls, will have heat radiating from the wall giving a wrong reading even in the evening, some part of the day it will be in full sun.
Accurate temps are taken in controlled conditions.
Ginkster, crete 2007 just over 42c and not 47c

You are talking about a forecast and not actual observed readings, the stats are correct, forecast are just that a forecast, trying to predict what the weather will do and not what it has done.
Everybody can believe the inaccurate readings and continue misleading people.
Its not only me saying the temps people are reporting are wrong, simon m has said the same.
Lets forget the offical temperature reading . The OP wanted to know how hot is hot in Olu Deniz mid Aug .
I think for those of us that have experienced Olu surrounded by mountains and with no breeze at it's highest temps in 2007 we can all safely agree on one thing "IT WAS DARN HOT" Yes there was a thermometer up in the shade and yes it showed over 50 and still over 40 during the evening but Yes it most probably could have been inaccurate but quite frankly it doesnt matter .IT WAS UNBEARABLE but we coped just fine .
The OP may find temps more like they were last year at the same time which were nowhere near as high but still HOT.
lyn
Right, let's try to compare it to something. I've been to Turkey in August before. Unfortunately for me, back in the days when you only got air conditioning if you were staying somewhere very pricey. Marmaris 1996 I used to have to sleep with a wet towel over my head.
Ah, it's on par with Greece pretty much, would we agree with that?
In Corfu went there in August the heat was enough to melt a vinyl 12" that the beachbar DJ flung onto the sand as an experiment.
It's kinda like that. But in 2007 you could have done that in June as well.
Marmaris 1996 I used to have to sleep with a wet towel over my head.
Those were the days
And I bet that was before the discovery of HT . Now we have all become much more sophisitated and choosy about our hotel requirements. Nothing but the best for all of us now

I did not say 47 .... I said 40-47... yet I must be wrong.. I must have had my ( mythos lager goggles on ) NOT Only you could tell me I and loads of locals that we are wrong.
I visited SOUTH EASTERN CRETE ( Ierapetra) and not NORTH WESTERN CRETE ( Chania) as the so called official website suggestes, The temps will and do vary from area to area. FACT And you ant tell me differ CHECK your area b4 you tell people they are missled or lyingcan't think of a username wrote:http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/ ... 05&LAND=GR

Iam well aware that that CHANIA (crete) was hot but not as hot as Ierapetra South east Crete on the sea of Lybia.
Ps ... the original poster asked How Hot Is Hot.... I can say very hot factor 30+ Take care in the sun FACT..
Dont listen to people that give false official temps ( anyone can do that ) Listen to the advise that the locals give and not anyone that thinks they are correct cause the OFFICIAL website says so. FACT.
IT WILL BE HOTT
Very funny person ginkster.
As long as it isnt as hot as it was in Icmeler in June 2007 I will be happy.
I forgot to say the tar on the road was so hot it melted my crocs.
Forecasts are only forecast and each site has taken their forecast from different providers, they tend to give you a general idea what temp levels will be.
ginkster got anymore jokes.

How can it be wrong IF THATS THE TEMP THEY SEE.. ( what you see is what you see ).
If you dont have any luck with the BBC weather job , you could start your own website telling people its not that hotttttttt.
South East Crete (Ierapetra)
It was 9pm and the digital reading on the temperature display is showing as 22c.
Has anyone got a photo taken in the same place in June 2007?
ginkster keep the jokes coming
