at the moment i am building up my flexi so i can have 2 weeks off at xmas to go to spain, then because of carry over from last year i will only have 33 days to take before the end of june .
I'm another schoolie so you know how much we get!
So, basically, I only work when my 3 kids are at school. Great from a child-care point of view, BUT, the downside is that much as I love my little darlings, it would be nice to have the occasional day off without them!!!
i get to take 26 annual days 8 bank holiday days 52 hours when i can take when i like and 2 srevice days for 10 years in the job we get extra service day for every 5 years service we do,shame i cant afford to go away on them all
46 days per annum. Perks of working overseas.
simple ..NOT ENOUGH
My gripe is that - same as others on this thread we have to take "fixed" days to cover the Xmas closure - but this situation only applies to those of us working in administration. It does not apply to teaching staff, who get 35 days, or support staff on proportional contracts.

Regarding some companies including bank holidays in the annual holiday entitlement, I believe the law has just been changed to stop employers pulling that trick.
I believe this change is still going through the consultation process but could be wrong!! Anyone sufficiently interested should have a look at http://www.dti.gov.uk/employment/holidays.
As I retire in 2 years and 8 months time (not that I'm counting ) I probably will not be around to benefit from any changes that may be implemented .
By the time I do retire I will have been in the same college for 31 years and I'm soooooo looking forward to being able to holiday permanently
Question: has anybody started a "What are you going to do when you retire?" topic - I haven't seen one but if there is could someone point me in the right direction.

Couldn't agree with you more!!!!!
Dont they only get about 2 weeks in USA? I remember the Big Apple Greeter we met asking about our holiday allowance as they dont get much.

only 20 days holiday however i dont need to work bank hols. not enough when you think a full 2 weeks hol takes up about 12 days if you want t o be off the day before you go and after you come back depending on your holiday days.
Snap Mary. Although I can't complain about the amount of days I get, when the children were of school age it would have been nice to have had the occasional day off without them. Now they are working, my days off are my own (sort of).
I only work one day a week!!! so can fit a short break in anytime, and get 4 weeks paid hols. No pay for bank hols (but get 1 1/2 days addeed to my leave) and have to take leave when factory is shut over Xmas. I can't complain seems very fair.
plus any extra lieu days if we work bank hols.
I get 30 days leave, 10 and a half days public holidays AND I work flexi-time... so I can take more days off.

Hubby works 4 days on and 4 days off all year and gets about 3 block leaves (i.e. 4 days) plus a number of PHs (days they get back for working Bank Hols) that he can add onto days off etc. to make up a fortnight.
Usually we have one city break and one 2 week holiday per year.
unfortunately, not enough... i would like my life to be one big holiday but sadly, i owe i owe so it's off to work i go!!!
