Also, forgot to mention - that was flying with Thomas Cook, and the TC rep stood at the desk asked what the problem was, but was no help at all, other than suggesting/asking if we could transfer anything from a case to the hand luggage.
So if the cases are over, I dont think the holiday reps can/will do any bargaining for you.

We had the same problem with Monarch back in May.
63Kg over 3 cases and they wanted 33Euro - as we had only had a virtually empty rucksack and a hand bag as
hand luggage - a few shoes removed from a case soon sorted the problem !
Rather than the expensive digital scales - we are now using £3.99 fishing scales from Aldi !
