Ibiza is the least ageist place that I've been to, it doesn't matter if you are seventeen or seventy you won't feel out of place anywhere as long as you have the right attitude.

when you thinking of going out.s/c or hotel do you have a date in mind..

I would suggest Ibiza Town, oppose to San An, if you would like a fun but slightly sophisicated night - if you want to do the whole feather bowers and drinking games night out, then you will probably love San An - although the crowd are very young there, mainly between 16 and 25.

I'm also going to Ibiza for the 1st time next year. Probably in late May to the 1st week of June. My bestfriend and I will be there for about 4-5 days, just after my 2 weeks in England.

We are both 41, and love to party.. not necessarily the 20something club scene though and we don't like trance, techno. We do love to have a good time, and dancing to 70s, 80s, 90s and today's music.

I've done a little research but as of right now I have no clue where we should stay. We want to be near the fun places, but not so close that we can't sleep when we are ready to.

We'd also like to either take a boat ride and rent scooters to explore parts of the island.

Any tips on hotel, restaurants, bars, or other things of interest please post.

Hi Tesse

I would personally recommend Es Cana for you guys, its a family resort however the bars are open until early in the morning, 4am in some cases and you will get a lot of the sort of music that you are after. San An, espically the West End is also an option, however unlike Es Cana is doesn't have the age mix and can be a trouble spot. However there is without doubt more bars here playing a wider range of music and the party scene is that much wilder. Ibiza Town offers a slightly more "grown up" party night out and is the haunt of the clued up clubbers, with its late night markets in the old town and sophisicated bars playing club music it is a very popular place.

In Es Cana, you might find somewhere like the Coral Playa a good option, the entertainment in an evening is very good, Anita your host is a ball, its an all inclusive (optional), has a great swimming pool, is right on the beach and is in 10 minutes walking distance of the nightlife while been far away enough to not be disturbed by it.

I always always recommend against hiring scooters on Ibiza. Many people have unfortunetly been killed or seriously injured on them on the island due to the driving standards. Many tour operators also recommend against it. Also you should check that your holiday insurance is valid if you do decide to hire them.

I hope you have a great holiday!

thanks for the advice, I'll put that on my list of places to look into.

One question, you mentioned it be a family location and well to be honest kids are the last thing I want to have to deal with while on holiday. Are there a lot of families with children staying there.

I guess I have to figure out what's worse, the little kids or the big kids, lol.

Odds are we'll be up until 3-4 in the morning also so we don't want babies crying and kids screaming at 7am!

Since its not recommended we rent scooters, what's the best way to see the island? We don't want to 'camp out' so to speak just at our hotel and the nearest beach. We'd like to see some of the other parts of the island too.

It looks like this might be a good place for us, what do you think?
Marina Panorama ibiza

Also, my bestfriend happens to be gay. If you saw us together though you'd definitely assume we were a straight couple.

So can you recommend a place for us to go where I would also have a good time? I obviously don't have a problems with gays, but I don't want to be with gay men 24/7 you know?

I would definetly recommend Ibiza Town to you then, its a very international destination, while having a decent gay party scene, it in no way dominates and there is a great mix of people here. Although its pretty family friendly, its not really known as a family resort either, so been over run with kids shouldn't be too much for a worry. To stay in Ibiza Town you might need to book independantly as not many British tour operators seem to have much of a foot hold.

I know the Marina Panorama, its a nice hotel, very central to Es Cana and is an Thomson Gold hotel, which means that it is mostly adult only. I've never stayed there, however I'm lead to believe its a nice place. It's four star I think, so it's going to be slightly pricey.

Regarding getting around, you could hire a car pretty cheaply if you book well in advance or alternatively the bus service is very good, timetables here, http://www.ibizabus.com - of course there are plenty of taxi's around. Or you could hire scooters, I would just not recommend it, but then I'm not your mother! :D

Thanks for your help! Ibiza Town has peaked my interest, I've been doing a little research online. The hotel being a little pricey isn't a problem.. especially for me because my friend is paying for the whole trip

We don't need luxury but definitely need a nice, clean comfortable hotel with good service, air conditioning, tv, blow dryers, an iron, etc... everything you'd expect from an average hotel in the US. If it were right on or very close to the beach with a balcony, that would be great too!

We also would like to eat at a 'locals' restaurant. You know, a real restaurant with real good tapas and seafood.

What are the laws regarding alcohol in public?
I read somewhere on a board that security at a hotel wouldn't let the guests enter with a drink in their hand?? What's that about?

Can we have our own liquor on the beach?

I know this all sounds like stupid questions, but it has been 20 years since I was in Spain and never been to Ibiza.

Thanks again.

Sounds to me like you'd be better suited to Santa Eulalia, it's a twenty minute bus ride to Ibiza and is much less of a ham and chips resort than Es Cana. Santa Eulalia has some lovely traditionally Spanish restaurants (although you can still eat ham and chips if you want to) and is ideal as a base for seeing the rest of the island. There is a hotel there called the Ses Estaques which doesn't allow children under sixteen, probably the only hotel in the area where you won't be surrounded by everybody else's screaming brats.

As to alcohol the Spanish have a very tolerant attitude to drinking and you'll be okay drinking on the beach, although just about every beach has a beach bar so you'll probably be more comfortable in one of those. Might be useful to check out the gay section of http://www.ibizaholidays.com they have some good info on the best gay bars etc...

I agree with balearicjobs that scooters are a really bad idea, I see people getting knocked off scooters on a daily basis here. I'd suggest that hiring a car would be a better option.

Check everything in regards to hotels in Ibiza, or Spain in general if you have specfic requirements. I've stayed in 4 star hotels in Ibiza and though very nice, they are not what I would expect a 4 star to be like in say a place like America.

Both Santa Eulalia and Ibiza Town are excellent for tapas bars, with many too choose from you'll likely be spoilt for choice. Just remember, like fish and chip shops, theres the good - the bad and the ugly. If there are plenty of locals eating in there, its a pretty good bet in my book. Also try and avoid places that look like they are trying to hard, tapas bars are not normally surrounded by Spanish flags, there working places where you will most likely find a TV with the Spanish league football on and they can be quite plain and boxy, but the food is usually excellent and you will get a true locally feel, just don't be intimidated, saying that it does help if you try and get a few Spanish phrases down.

Its not unusal for hotels to not want other people to bring drink into the hotel and I think its pretty much frowded upon to be drinking while walking in the street, however I don't know of any specific laws, it sounds more like a hotels individual policy, which of course they are fully entitled too.

Can we have our own liquor on the beach?

Yes. Unless specific rules are posted at the beach that state otherwise. We have had many a bottle of local wine on Santa Eulalia's beach.

No problems at all. Everybody has to ask them at least one, and I will put on wager that says you will not be the only person that finds this thread useful!

All the best.

Personally I find the gay quarter in ibiza town the best area for nice bars, restaurants and great service, its not has hectic as the streets below and has a much better ambience. Similar to some of the small streets in Dalt Vila where there are some fab restaurants.

Although I wouldnt like to stay in ibiza town itself, playa den bossa would be a nice alternative, that way you can have the calm of the beach by day (unless you like bora bora) and the hectic packed streets of the town at night.

very helpful. I'm sure you'll be seeing me around here again. Since my trip isn't until May, I'm trying to just forget about it until February or so!!

thanks for the tips on the locals tapas bar. i much prefer that atmosphere over a touristy, themed or chain type restaurant.

** Edit to remove post made in Spanish. Sorry, but as per the T&C's all posts must be in English. luci HT Mod **
