Ice cream in Goa - is it safe?

I've just come back from having my jabs done and the nurse advised me not to have any fresh ice-cream out there. I love ice-cream on holiday and just wondered if anyone knew how 'safe' it is?
Also are ice-creams in packets, ie cornettos etc easy to buy there, sorry if this seems a silly question but ive never been

Just thinking that if the ice-cream isnt safe then i'll jsut buy from freezers in supermarkets etc!

cornetto style ices avail. sellers on beach will also carry cool boxes full.

baskin robbins ice cream parlour in calengute is a fav of my sons.

There are guys who cycle up and down the beach with ice-boxes.

I just wonder how many times the ice has thawed and then the ice cream has been re-frozen again. :shock:

It should be O.K. from shops and restaurants - because they have generators to cope with the frequent supply failures and load shedding. :lol:

Never had any problems within our group, but as Max says the thawing and re-freezing could cause a problem.
If you get anything from the beach sellers (or shops for that matter) take a look at the tops or packets they come in - you can usualy tell which have been re-frozen.

Hi while your out there try the Kulfi, its pistachio flavoured ice cream that comes in a small cone,we usually get it from the local shops for a few rupee's it is delicious.

If you are buying lolly ices or pre packaged ice cream just feel around the wrapper if it is mishapen DONT buy it! take this from someone who spent 3 days in bed,well no most of it on the toilet from eating re frozen ice cream. allan.

What happens when theres one of the many powercuts, I should'nt think it would take to long for an ice cream to melt in that heat (day or night). :hmmm

There is also a Baskin and Robbins at Baga Beach as well, just up a little bit from Brittos. Enjoy!!!!

Leslie at Molly Malones has now opened an Ice Cream Parlour!! I would imagine that stuff is safe but don't touch the stuff that the local kids eat, it's made from un-treated water!!! The guy sells it from the back of his cycle. It's basically a large block of ice that the guy cuts chunks off and shoves a stick into............delhi belly in a lick!!!

A couple of years ago I had some ice cream from one of the guys on the beach and was very sick. Maybe it wasn't the icecream, but it's the only time I've been ill on my visits to Goa, so just be careful. I've eaten it loads of times from shops and restaurants with no ill effects.

as above can really recommend Kulfi, but always ask if it is the genuine thing or Kulfi flavoured ice cream.
in a restaurant proper Kulfi should be served in a small clay pot.
you can get these in the UK if you have a decent Asian supermarket nearby, around £2-3 time.

Ice cream in Goa

I have a diet mainly of ice-cream and vodka, and usually no side effects [apart from the odd 'off ' coke mixer, seriously ice cream is fine, but I would be wary of buying off beach sellers, as someone has said mis-shapen icecream, has melted and been re frozen. from shops and restaurants you should be fine, and Kulfi is a must, not only gorgeous, you get the clay pot for free, [which makes a excellent ashtray for the beach.

Yes you get the pot, only discovered this after a few hundred or so ice-creams, they actually throw them away [the pots] got a gift wrapped parcel of a dozen or so last year from Ma Thai, but was caught recently by the owner, using one on the beach for my personal ashtray [think he was impressed by my inititive] they also make good candle holders,
