Hi all, if I was sat in Big Tonys bar Sliema, how would I find the Il-Merill restaurant from here? also can anybody tell me of any other good restaurants around this area and how to get to them. I have always stayed in H/B hotels but this year we will be on easy dine 7 nights H/B and 7 nights eating out, we are both meat/fish and pasta eaters, your help is needed.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave & Alan, if you come out of Tony's Bar and turn right with your back to the bar, on the same side of the road you walk for a short while past Marks and Spencer and The BOV, until you come to St Vincent Street in fact on the corner of the pavement is an advertising sign pointing you to Il-Merril, personally we much prefer Il-Merill to any other restaurant in Sliema because it's much freindlier and cosy and the range of local food is better and always prepared fresh every single day, I know this because I know the owners very well and I have been in there spotlessley clean kitchens and storage rooms, don't get me wrong Ta Kolina is ok but not a patch on Il-Merill for food, service, and freindliness.
Hello Sliema2 and Alan, well at the moment it six nights in the Il-Merril and one in the Ta Kolina unless there is any body who now's of any other ones we could try.
Would endorse what Sliema2 has said about the Ill Merril. My wife and son are out in Malta at the moment and they probably won't be visiting the Ill Merrill only because they're staying at the Coastline and it's a bit too far for them to travel of an evening.
6 out of 7 evenings in the Ill Merrill sounds good to me!

hello all,if you fancy a change from these excellent restaraunts give this one a try,"the magic kiosk" its on sliema strand opposite the valletta ferry terminal and the central car park, good food, friendly service, varied menu, dont order the grand size ice cream desert,it comes in a gallon bucket,!! prices are very reasonable and the view across sliema creek to valletta is great especially at night,go on,give it a try, regards, maltajoe.
the magic kiosk is also very good great for breakfast.
so many great restaurants so little time i have heard of a restaurant down a little alley off bisazza street that i must try

Bongu Alan & Joe, I have heard somewhere that Magic Kiosk is scheduled to be knocked down to make way for a seated area, can somebody confirm or deny this ru,our please ?.
sliema2,you are right they have about 2 years to go.but i an sure that they will on for 20years more(i hope they will )
Grazzi Malta31, I thought I had read it somewhere, I must admit though I bet the food in there isn't a patch on Il-Merill though, the magic kiosk just looks like the kind of place you would go for a coffee and a light snack, Il-Merill serves lovely fresh fish and tradiitional Maltese dishes, aswell as steaks and pasta etc it's always very nice.
I really can't see how the Magic Kiosk and the Ill Merrill can be compared since they are entirely different types of restaurant. The Ill Merrill is a traditional Maltese restaurant whereas the Magic Kiosk is there serving the casual trade from folks walking along. Whilst I have nothing against the Magic Kiosk and have frequently been there, if I'm out for a Maltese gourmet treat I'd go to the Ill Merrill,
Burger King (yuk)
Only kidding, if I had my way I would throw both BK & McD's out of Malta altogether.
Burger King Sliema - nice ice creams last summer............................... Air conditioning also works well!!
Thankyou

Umm,
Fully agree with Graham on this one Mcd's and Burger king = yuk.
Took this photo to make Sliema2 homesick
It was lunchtime so Il-Merill was closed - I was hoping to get some take away Bragoli as I have never eaten there
I had a look at the menu because Dave asked about prices - starters around Lm2, mains range from Lm3ish to Lm5.55 for a fillet with brandy sauce. I judge a restaurant's prices by the price charged for a plain grilled fillet, Lm5.05 at Il-Merill is good. If a restaurant is asking more than about Lm6.50 then it is expensive!
Dave, if you are walking in the other direction Guze next to the Black Pearl is the same sort of price range and they give you free bigilla, ftira & breadsticks while you wait for you order. Cafe Jubilee opposite the Manoel Island bridge, cheap drinks & free nibbles, open until the early hours.
I didn't know how cruel you could be But I fear you may have done the trick and I get the feeling Sliema2 is on his way
