First you have to find out which office to apply to which is dependant on where you live. ( There is a very clear list indicating which which you should view first). If it is the London Office take note of the address to send your application to.
Second, you need your passport and travel tickets/dates (If you have them) to hand
Thirdly, a credit or debit card to pay.
Fill in the boxes..... very straight forward. If you are applying for a tourist VISA you don't need referees or sponsors. Just put NA in every box ( not n/a)
Print off the application form, clip two passport photo's to it and send it with your passport (s) (max2 per application) to the relevant office. Again, if you read the instructions there shouldn't be a problem.
Take them down to the Post Office and buy a pre paid recorded delivery envelope to enclose with your passport and application form.Post them, sit back and relax.
They warn you to allow 10 days to be sure you receive them back in time. Personally I would allow a little more time if you can do so.
Ours took 9 days.
In my opinion anyone who applies in person, arranges to collect them etc must be mad. The alternative is so easy.
The cost for two VISA's is about £78 including admin.
Postage is £10 to cover both ways recorded delivery.
Incidentally, anyone who is paranoid about loosing their passports in the system should make a photocopy of it before sending it off. In fact it's good practice to do so anyway in case you ever loose it or have it stolen, make getting a replacement a lot easier.
