We have booked a similar trip 0830 flight out and 2230 return and have booked a cab for the day with http://www.thebluecab.com which will work out at £26 for 12 hours. Be sure to post how you get on as we don't go till December.
p.s. Our daughter (9) is so excited about seeing the pyramids etc. and we have also booked flights to Luxor 0700 out and 1830 back (we couldn't fine a later flight back on our dates)

Helen Hi,

Went to cairo last year at easter with our two girls (10 + 5) had a great day out but was very long, we went to the pyramids, had lunch on a nile river boat, did the picture scroll shop, and then the museum, long day but well worth it.

I would,nt however, go without a guide, they do more than just explain the history they will actually protect you from the locals!! Also if your kids are young and dark haired they will atract a lot of attention as my 5 year old who was 4 then experienced, she was the centre of attraction whilst at the pyramids from young and old as I was later told it was thought to be "good luck" for the locals to "touch" such a child. The guide with us was great and constantly chased people away, but I still did,nt let my little one out of my grasp!

A truly amazing visit though and one that stays fresh in my mind! managed two hols in Eygpt last year and just booked another for July can,t wait, just love the place and the people!
