Hi Phyll

You will see many things on your trip to Egypt and yes there are some issues with animal welfare, accept that you may see some live animals in markets that are going to become food, don't want to be graphic but the food is much fresher than ours when they buy it :)

Don't go on one of the horse and carriages called a Kalesh, this is applies to all Egypt not just Cairo, other than being realistic and understanding that there are some differences in regards animal welfare there is nothing to stop you visiting Cairo, you most probably wouldn't even notice any welfare issues.

So most definitely go and enjoy :tup

I'm biased - I love Cairo because it's always buzzing. It's definitely a city that never sleeps.

If you do decide to go please make sure you visit the Solar Boat museum by the side of the Great Pyramid. It's one that is never included in the day tours and it is a fabulous sight. Much bigger than you would have imagined it to be.

Of course, the Khan el Khalili bazaar has to be on your list of places to go too for the spicy smells alone. It really is an experience to hear the noise and clamour of the souk as you go round it. It's huge so allow plenty of time!

I would definitely say go, as well. Such a shame about the animal welfare, though :(
