I will be visiting Cairo soon. Where should I stay? Cairo centre, Giza or near airport?
Any recommended hotels in either area?
Thanks!
Personally, I wouldn't stay near the airport or heliopolis if you are planning to do the Cairo sightseeing experience. We quite like Zamalek area on Gezira island as there is a lot of greenery plus it's a quieter location. We've stayed at the President a couple of times but it's only very basic with no pool.
If you are only going to be there for 2 or 3 days, you may want to base yourself in a more central location such as the Rameses Hilton.
There are a number of hotels in and around Giza now and so closer to the Pyramids (great if you want to do the pyramids by day and the Sound & Light Show in the evening) but bear in mind if you want to see the Cairo Museum you will have to travel 20 minutes or so by taxi or local dolmus (an experience in itself), or the Metro.
We loved the Cateract Pyramids when we were there about 10yrs ago and you've got such other choices as Mena House Oberoi and Movenpick hotels out by Giza.
