If you break down the actual cost per day, what you get for your money is excellent value. For example if you get an all inclusive deal, you virtually have nothing else to pay out unless of course you want to do excursions etc.

Our last cruise worked out about £87 per person per day. For that we got flights, transfers, 7 nights full board (with as much food as you can eat, when you want to eat it) as much drink as we wanted, fantastic entertainment, cinema, plus the opportunity to visit 5 different ports of call in 3 different countries. You get spoiled for these 7 days. If you equate that cost of £87 per person, that may only get you one nights dinner bed & breakfast in a hotel in the UK!!!

When you visit the ports, you can do your own thing which again will save you money as the excursions can be quite pricey.

Also companies like Royal Caribbean do "taster" cruises for 2 or 3 nights which would give you an idea of what a cruise would be like.

If you decide to go for it I am sure you will NOT be disappointed. Beware though - they are addictive!!

I doubt you'll find better value than the Italian lines - Costa and MSC. Of course you'll be in the minority as most passengers are Italian but if that doesn't bother you you should be fine.

If you are looking at Costa you may be able to save even more money by taking the £200 discount and arranging your own low-cost flights. Taking this route I booked my parents onto Costa last October for less than £50 per night!

Yes there are different age groups. The majority though I have found to be older people. Think that may also depend on what time of year you travel.

Or maybe visit your local friendly travel agent who will go through lots of options with you.

We are off on our third cruise on Sat with Costa (Italian company) sailing on the Costa Fortuna!!

Many thanks.

The ship is over thirty years old but still offers good value cruising, Just don't expect modern luxury royal caribbean/carnival style cruising.

Keep an eye out for Island escape May,June came down to £299 for 7nights including flights to Palma for the last two years. This was not AI you still had drinks to pay for. I see they are already advertising at £399 so expect further falls in price over the next 4-6 weeks for early season.
