Just wanted to ask the candolim crowd if Mama is still around? For the few that dont know this grand lady she is one of the fruit sellers and a great character from the beach.
Its a few years since i was last there and im going back in january I would love to know if she was still around. I would be surprised if she was though as she must be a ripe old age now. If anyone has any info please let me know if shes around what shack she hangs around.
Cheers guys
Maz x
She is very persistant!
We have bought off Poonam in the blue shirt for years she is such a loverly girl. She got married in May 2004 and told us she wouldn't see us again, but she is having probs living with the inlaws, so has decided to get out of the way and sell on the beach! Go girl!
She seemed fine but did seem to enjoy the rest on your sunbed whilst cutting up the fruit.. !!

Thanks guys, thats good to know
thought you might appreciate
Fiona, that photo doesn't look like the one we know as Mama.
The caption says it is mama. I wonder if Maz recognises this one?
mama is the grupiets of the grumpiest fruit sellers and quite cheeky with it sometimes. I always see her in Baga, but i think quite a few of them call themselves Mama too.
That looks like mama to me Fiona cheers, however she used to be more on the beach at candolim than baga when i was there. Im sure some relative of hers owned one of the shacks.
We were there in nov-dec on baga beach and moma was selling her fruits by oceanic.[ thats the one in fiona's picture}.A lovely lady.
Yup thats the Mama i remember from my last trip 4 years ago, god bless her.
That is not the mama I know, but there are a couple of women call themselves Mama.
I'm going back in March and will tell you how she is.
This is the mama we know from near the Oceanic shack, the fuit basket on her head weighs a ton-she is lovely
lots of mamas all selling old fruit and wearing nice new specs the good english have bought.
The "Mama" I know has been selling fruit from her heavy basket on the Candolim/Sequerim beach for the last 12+ years at least. Normally in the area of Bob Marley and Sea Waves shacks. She is somewhat challenged in the dental region and is now starting to look her age, (whatever that is?) She also seems to have developed a slight tremor and sadly gets slower each season, she always remembers her regulars. It's always a pleasure to see her and is one of those sights that tells you that you are back!!!!! She was definately there in December, I'm back to Goa on 17/3 and will hopefully be able to post a sighting report on my return.
Another one of Mama.
That one is obviously the (Baga Mama)! judging by the backdrop. It would take our Candolim/ Siquerim Mama best part of a week to walk the length of the beach with her basket on her head! She normally patrols in the area of beach off the stern of River Princess.
like I said there's many mamas, the mama I know dons new specs has no teeth and walks past the 21 coconuts shack daily selling fruit and waking you up asking if you want a pinapple for 80 p
I wonder how many mamas there are
as many shantis and monicas I guess
