I'd say thats a pretty good price. We paid a bit over £800 for a fortnight 3 star self catering in Laganas in Aug/Sept a couple of years ago.

Kalamaki is the place to choose... Laganas was too "in your face with clubbing", but it's only a ten min taxi journey if you fancy it. The beach at Kalamaki is lovely - no watersports so its also peaceful. We hired a motorbike and toured the beautiful island (plenty to see), but always drove to the beach at Kalamaki. You're also only a ten min taxi ride from the airport if you don't want to wait on the bus. It was also dirt cheap to eat out when we were there - like a slap up meal for four people with gallons of wine/beer/shots etc was under £50 including the tip. A regular meal for two with wine was about £16-£20.

Is that enough persuasion for you?

Enjoy your holiday!

How did you get it for such a good price. When we are going isn't actually school holiday time as far as I know.

Sounds good. What airport are you flying from? just checked that exact same hol with eclipse direct from Gatwick and it comes out slightly more expensive.

well here's the strange thing.. was looking at Gatwick as prices are usually cheaper [more competing flights] but when the lass phoned me back she had got me on a 6-30 am flight from Luton [closer to home]

forgot to say its only a week but this is how it panned out for 2 of us

Thomson brochure price £732.00
Thomson direct discount £ 60.00
travel agents discount £ 70.00

net cost for 2 £602.00

this includes accommodation half board, flights, transfers, morning flight [don't do night jobs] NO in-flight meals

The Scottish Schools finish up at the end of June so July is usually expensive for us Jocks.

It does sound a really good price.

Don't suppose anyone can give me any tips on beating the price??

At the mo it's still a little bit too expensive for us and we're still looking at Turkey with it been a bit cheaper, but we went there last year and I want to try somewhere different if we can afford it.

Hi,

Olympic, Libra and Kosmar are usually at the cheaper end of Greek holiday companies and are worth a look, it may be worth considering self-catering as well as B and B as this can drop the price sometimes and you're not really losing much as breakfast is normally quite light.

Thanks, I shall have a look this afternoon.

We're not bothered about B&B at all tbh, this one just happens to be bed and breakfast. It finishes at half 9 anyway so I doubt we'd have it that much.

you dont say where you can fly from.. it could make a diffrence.. but based on london airport departures staying in kalamaki the price still looks good to me..... dose it have to be Kalamaki or are you just looking for a holiday?? if so what sort..what do you want to do [[outside the hotel]] what are your interest's..

Manchester airport ideally, to cut down on travelling costs to the airport.

Kalamaki seems perfect for us. We're a young couple, but don't want to stay in a party resort were we can't get away from it all. All we want really is a nice beach we can spend a few days lazing on, some nice restaurants and bars, few shops to have a walk round, oh and a waterpark for the boyf :duh Obviously a few day trips too. We like that this resort is close to Laganas so if we want a good night out we can, but we're not stuck with a load of big groups of girls/lads out to get what they can :rofl I'm not too bothered about the hotel I've mentioned but it did have good reviews.

I think it's a decent enough price, but my boyfriend's job is unsafe (this week he should be finding out whether he's been made redundant or not so we're waiting for that before we can book anything) so we need to get it as cheap as we can.

OK Laura.. i have looked on the sites that i would usually use and although the base price is better by the time the surcharges are put on i cant better what yo have for 14 nights.. as you do not have children [unless you are at school or uni] you will save a hell of a lot by going outside the school holidays

Hi Laura
Just had a very quick look at Manos and Olympic and both companies have very reasonable self catering hols to Corfu and Rhodes with departure dates between 4th and 8th of July for 14 nights.....some prices coming in well below £700. Might be worth taking a look. Also the price for Dennys Inn looks to be the brochure price. I know Travelcare/Co-operative travel have discounts running at the moment. Might be worth giving them a visit to see what they can offer you! ;)

Thanks. Did have my heart set on Kalamaki but I shall have a look at those later on today :-)

I might try going in to Co-Op actually, even if they can only price match. I did look on the site but the same holiday was slightly more expensive (£411) but I'd rather book with them though than Thomas Cook we've all booked with them before, and when we visited Thomas Cook on Sunday they were a lot more pushy.

Hi Laura

I can't say anything about the price, but we stayed at Dennys Inn many years ago, (still got the Tshirts), and it was excellent. It's not far from the airport but wasn't noisy and everyone used to look out for the planes, especially the postal plane which came over every morning at 9am!

All the staff were excellent, and with a lot of people returning after previous visits. When we were there, there were 40 rooms. It seems to have been renovated and now there are 67 rooms. Don't know if you've seen their site http://www.dennysinn.gr.

The beach is beautiful soft sand with loads of space, but walk towards Laganas, about 1/2 hour if I remember and the sunbeds are like streets. The contrast is amazing. The one thing we remember about that holiday was the description in the brochure said it was a 7 minute stroll to the beach, so I timed it, and spot on!

There were a few other things I remember as it was our honeymoon!

Hope to get back there someday. Hope you have as nice a holiday there as we did!
