The price of a pair of specs is equal to (or more than) the cost of a return flight to Goa - I paid £370.70 for my flight in November
I had to have my eyes tested this morning and they have deteriorated somewhat so I checked out the spec frames on display, looked at the cheaper end of the spectrum this time and found a pair for £55.00, the lenses alone cost £310.00. Total £365.00 which is cheaper than some pairs I have had before but only marginally cheaper than my last return flight
Like many on HT I have in the past bought frames in Goa, also attempted to buy lenses but they just don't seem to be able to do the very thin lenses that I need (because my eye sight is so bad and I'd be wearing milk bottles otherwise).................HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please tell me that someone, somewhere in Goa can do the very thin lenses as I am thinking of getting a flight over and also having my teeth sorted at the same time - all in all it might work out a bit cheaper

Franks in Mapusa Market near to Royal Chicken,an old family firm but now run by the son who did his optical training in Sydney. Very good service and got what I wanted.
Also has a branch in Panjim but don't know who runs that business.
Sorry, yes we do stay in the North. I have tried a few places without success - probably 3 years back now, so maybe they have caught up and someone now does them. I have previously found that they will say that they can do/get them, even had some made up at the place in Candolim, but when they were ready for collection, they hadn't met the requirements so I got my deposit back. (Such a shame as the frames were really nice). I gave up looking after that.
My prescription is very high,so need to have ultra thin lenses, which i have had from Danguis. There is a branch top end of the high st.Calengute and also in Mapsa, they seem to be about the same as i get at home, but about a third of the price.I always have trouble with the fit at my local optitions, they tell me it's because i have a small face but the 4 pairs i've bought in Goa have been fine.
Initially they were fine and the price was great but 18 months on I have had to have a new prescription, so unless my eyesight has deteriorated markedly, the prescription in Goa was not as accurate as could have been.
I also did have some problems in getting thin lightweight plastic lenses in a frameless style that would incorporate varifocal lenses.
Also the reactolite that I paid for is nowhere near as fast or deep as reactive ones I have had in past from UK
Present ones are from Specsavers,a lot dearer, but when I got them I told shop I didn't want extra pair/ free sunglasses etc etc and simply asked for their best price for the one pair that I wanted and was reasonably satisfied.
The eye test was also FAR FAR FAR more comprehensive than the one in Goa.(i.e. diabetes, glaucoma etc )
My opinion is that Goa is fine if you simply need specs but if you need anything that is more serious, better in UK.
And , before anyone disagrees, I know that there are many, many satisfied four eyes who get their specs in Goa.
Am I the only one not satisfied?
I get my eyes tested in UK and take my prescription to Goa and have no problem having it made up. Know what you mean about thin lenses though but I have found this depends on the frames you choose. In 2008 I had no problem getting thin lenses with the frames I chose but it didn't really work out that much cheaper than the UK as now I have reached the grand old age of 60 I get 30% off in UK. (Old age does have its compensations!). This time I went to Dangui and got my specs for £79 but the lenses are quite thick but because of the styoe of the glasses no-one has really noticed and I only wear them for work anyway as I wear my contact lenses when I go out so I wasn't that bothered for the difference in price. Hope you find what you want.
Always used eye site opticians in candolim, but take my prescription with me. Have varifocals with reactolight lenses plus anti scratch and anti glare, never had any problems.Plus my lenses are quite thin aswell. The first time i used him the was not ready when we was going home, so paid him and less than a week later was delivered to me, he even wrote 1st class on the parcel, bless him. Denham
