You know how your hair grows out of the scalp taking chemicals out of the body (which is how its used to check for traces of drugs and such) couldn't they just invent a tablet selection that would come out as the hair grows ?

dragons den here I come... LOL

I heard peroxide kills lice - I get my highlights done regularly!! Failing that, I cremate the little $*%@ with my GHDs

On the subject of hair colours, as Sanji said before - be careful if you've ever had a "henna" tattoo on holiday, you may be allergic to hair dye without knowing it. My son had a bad reaction to a henna tattoo in Lloret a few years ago, now he has to be careful with hair dyes (and he likes it dark, he's a bit "gothy")

And moving on again - daughter paid lots of money (come to think of it, I gave her that money) to have her hair dyed very dark at the hairdressers a couple of weeks before our recent Easter holiday - she came home from the holiday with all the expensive colour faded in the strong sun, and with what I thought were lovely golden highlights - I had to take her to Boots the day after we came home to buy another dark colour in a home kit (much cheaper than the hairdressers) because she was almost refusing to go to school without her dark hair  So if you're dyeing your hair for a holiday, just bear in mind it might not stay like that for the whole holiday!

Ive only recently started having my hair coloured (low lights the first time and this time I have added caramel lowlights). My intention is to have blonde highlights before I go on holiday in June (I wanted to build up the colour gradually). Im using tresemme (sp?) shampoo & conditioner for coloured hair but what products are recommended for caring for it in the sun? I always use a heat protection spray before drying and straightening but does anyone have any other recommedations for looking after my hair whilst I am on holiday?

Definately use hair protector during the day or your colour will go really light and your hair becomes tangled and frizzy. I got my hair highlighted 2 days before we went to Cyprus last year and it was so difficult to manage until I used the conditioning treatment during the day and a little bit after shampooing. I always take loreal elvive solar hair sun protection spray which smells devine but I couldnt get it last year and really suffered. I managed to get some after my holidays at Bodycare so bought 4 bottles just in case!!!! I am smelling it now :sun2 and I cant wait for my holidays!!! As soon as I come out of the sea or the pool I spray it on and it makes your fingers run through your hair smoothly and everyone looks to see who has sprayed the perfume

It always amazes me when these folk get all tree hugging green issues inside their head and who take up the issue of things like cigarette smoke and car fumes etc, and they go and lay down on the airport runway to protest about the environment"¦"¦
Then they go home and slap a cocktail of lethal chemicals on their hair, which are known allergens and potential carcinogens, for vanity.
A bit two faced if you ask me, but there again, nobody ever asks me anything these days. :rofl
Not forgetting where all these chemicals go when they are rinsed off the hair and down the drain.
They think one person doing it doesn't matter, but think of the millions of women who dye their hair.?
It's big business for the makers of these dyes and the hairdressers around the world, and they couldn't give a flying figadora about your long term health.

When I stopped dyeing my hair it was the best thing I have ever done. I went and had it cut short and for a few months it looked cr@p, but slowly by keep having it trimmed, I finally got rid of months/years of dye and then it was up to me whether I chose to let it grow again.
Years ago I used to pay a lot of money out for blonde streaks and now I get silver ones for free.
As you get older and the grey starts coming through, your skin tone changes to match your hair, so if you must dye your hair, you should always go for a lighter shade than your natural colour, preferably one shade lighter, otherwise if you stay dark or go darker, you end up looking like an anaemic old aged gothic.

The best thing for hair on holiday is to keep it covered up, if it's been bleached the sun will make it like straw, if it's been dyed dark the sun will bleach the colour out of it. and apart from using an intense conditioner, you need a specific type of shampoo to remove the chemicals that are in swimming pools....if you use them.

My mum I can't have her coloured anymore, it gives her ear infection, the ENT told her she has a reaction to the dye and its absorbed by the skin and is making its way into her ear. Each time she need treatment and her ear cleaned out it was full of black dye, while she was having her haired coloured both her ears was plug with cotton wool and the cotton was clear of any dye.

CTOAU:Sorry to hear about your mum. :kiss
I forgot to add that if you've had your hair bleached/highlights and you intend on using the swimming pool, you definitely need to go out and buy a shampoo that is specifically made to remove the chemicals in pools, otherwise your lovely highlights will take on a "brassy" hue and the worst scenario is that your hair will turn green.

I'm so glad I don't have to think about any of this any more, but I have been there and got the T-Shirt.

If your highlights do turn green from the swimming pool, go to the pool bar and get some tomato sauce, put this on for about 10 to 20 mins and the green tinge should vanish.
( green and red are at opposite ends of the colour spectrum, so the red cancels out the green )
cheers,
juby

am expecting some smart comments from the fella's on this one ( comedy sigh !!!!)
