Newbie here, but something I need to share with everyone relating to Jeep safaris in Turkey - and advice which will probably be worth heeding in other countries. We stayed at a friend's place in Altinkum in summer, 2007. We booked our own flights and used a company called Maxi Tours for our airport transfer. Unfortunately we used the same company for the dreaded Jeep safari. During the morning Jeep trip (it was actually in a Land Rover) we were encouraged to get involved in water fights. It seemed OK at the time. Although we had been reluctant to get involved initially, we ended up squirting water at the occupants of the other two vehicles on our trip. All was fine - until I was standing at the back of our stationary vehicle when the driver suddenly decided to put his foot down without checking to see whether any of his passengers were standing up. I immediately slipped on the wet floor of the Land Rover and plunged headfirst from the back of the vehicle on to the road and broke my shoulder.
I ended up having surgery in Turkey to have a plate and eight screws inserted into my arm, the "holiday" dragged on longer than it should have done and there was untold grief for my wife, children and relatives on top of everything else.
I've had further surgery and endless physio since I returned to UK, but my shoulder will never be quite the same again.
Moral of the story? If you must go on Jeep safaris make sure you have responsible drivers - and do not get involved in water fights. Would I recommend Maxi Tours? What do you think...
