Merry christmas all, hope everyone have a lovely time.
I'm after some advice on jewellery in Sharm. Santa told me that I could get an engagement ring when in Sharm at the end of January :hyper. I'd like a white gold or platinum diamond ring - would you recommend buying in Sharm? How would we know we were getting the real thing? Can the jewellers make a ring up in a week if they don't have excatly what I like?
Sorry for all the questions! Any info very much appreciated.
Thanks
Lynsey
What you need to do is ask someone like your travel rep. or your hotel manager, who they would recommend as most reliable.
two things stick out in my mind
if they don't lock the door when you are inside it's not expensive (or maybe not real !)
I you are wanting something specific don't tell them look at EVERYTHING first
When you buy jewellery and they have to make it for you they charge extra (design and making it up fee)
If it's already made they can't charge you extra so if they know what you want first they tend to not show it to you
I noticed this when I bought Stephanie a 12 carat London Blue Topaz necklace then decided to buy a 6 carat ring as well
the shop keeper tried carefully to hide a try of rings with the perfect one on it
and failed too
Congratulations on the Engagement. I have no idea about jewlery etc in Sharm BUT if you do manage to get a platinum diamond ring then please let me know.
In the 20 years since Andy and I got engaged (20 yrs next Monday!) I have developed an allergy to gold and since I no longer work in the wards I can now get a bigger diamond without feeling its a waste of money as I could never wear it. Anyway Andy promised me a new engagement and wedding ring for my 40th (NOT going to be the real thing yet as he keeps buying holidays to Egypt) but if we can get a nice one at a decent price I may be able to persude him.
Look forward to hearing how you get on
Angela
Go for it Ang!!!!!!
I have just dug out the actual piece of jewellery i bought and the exact price, on another thread i guessed at the price, but now i have it in front of me.
I bought a white gold bracelet, with sapphire stone, and cubic zuconia stones all set in white gold. The bracelet had a clasp, and safety chain.
I bought it from the jewellers across the road from the pomadaro restaurant. There are two jewellers facing this restaurant. It is the one on its own, the other side has two side by side.
The name of the jewellers is called (YASSIN JEWELLERY)
Tel : - 069 3601 065.
He never hassled and there were 6 in the shop, i tried it on, asked the price, and paid £340 sterling for it. I got home and had it valued. The valuation came to £520. I got a receipt and certificate, also the man showed me the hall mark, which it had two.
I never felt threatened, and would certainly go in their again, to buy the equivalent in the UK in white gold, would be a lot dearer.
I have since been to the jewellers several times, and bought rings, and necklaces. If you pay cash you can even get a better bargain. The manager will show you the hall marks, an egyptian one, and the British one through a magnifying glass. He will also weigh it for the correct price and give you a certificate, and stamp it.
It depends how long you are staying in sharm to have one made up, but they will do their upmost to help you.
When i got mine valued, they said the jewellers was one of the best they had ever seen for made articles such as my bracelet.
I would recommend them 20/10 if i could.
Congrats by the way.
Michelle.
If a piece of jewellery has a UK mark on AND an Egyptian one I would doubt the authenticity of one of them
Whenever i buy jewellery there it always has two hall marks and i bring it home and get it valued, the jewellers encourage me to get it from Sharm as when valued its worth a lot more. At the time they did tell me why there are two hall marks, but i havent a problem with that as long as the pieces are real and valued back here in the UK.
Thanks to all for the advice. I will keep you posted with what I eventually do.
