Hi everyone,i have literally been back about 2 hours,i thought i would pop on here and give a review of Benidorm and will leave a seperate review of the ambassador playa in the hotel reviews.Right where do i start? I would advise anyone to be so careful while out anywhere in Benidorm.I have been 4 times and never had any problems myself, including this time, but the gypsies are out in full force and are now dressed as english or spanish tourists. On wednesday my father in law needed to go to the bank to get some money out.He went to the bank by the eurotabac shop so that he could call and get some cigarettes for my mother in law.My husband went with him and they drew the money out (400 euros)and he put it in his pocket and zipped it up.By the time they had both got from the cashpoint to the door it had gone.It had been taken in a couple of seconds by a professional pickpocket. Please be aware that they are wandering in and out of the bank in pairs or groups waiting to see who uses the cashpoints.
I was told by the rep that this is happening every day and that between the ambassador playa, the villa de benidorm, rosamar and the pelicanos hotels, there are a group of 5 women (plus men) that hang around to offer help to people who are getting off the coaches.
I don't want to worry anyone, but i don't want anyone to go out and get robbed either.Even the reps have been robbed from what mine was telling me.
Sorry to be a pain and my intention is not to put anyone off going at all,i just wanted to warn people to be extra careful.
Apart from that we had a lovely holiday,Benidorm is very expensive at the moment, but then again i should imagine that most of Spain is because of the euro. The acts in Benidorm are very good, especially Donna Glass, who is a female singer.
I will be leaving a seperate review of the hotel on the hotels forums site.
Thank you
Angela.
And Angela's review is
I have been going since 1976 missed quite a few years and then returned, love the place something for everyone but the last time we went 2 years ago for the fiesta we stayed at the Levante hotel which was lovely and the bars across the road are great, but it was scary walking back at night if we went further it was looking over your shoulder all the time especially going up that road from the Pelicanos and up to our Hotel, even in the day the gypsies was around women cursing if you did not give them money, the last week we did not go further at night but just crossed to the bars facing hotel, One girl who had just arrived was hit over the head outside the white horse just going outside for a ciggie, we had just passed strolling towards the hotel at 10pm, another man was mugged who lived there just further up at the top of the road near the stretford end , it did put us off so we missed last year and went somewhere else, but we still love the place shame this is getting worst, i know you have to be careful wherever you go but this is now getting bad there
i always wear a money bag with zips round my neck day and night , you can hardly notice it , costs about a fiver in the uk , and can save you a lot of heartbreak.
Last wednesday walking past john and josephs my wife felt the zip on her bag being opened.
When she stopped and turned around there were two women behind her.
She shouted for me who was a few paces in front and stood in a shop doorway the women kept walking by.
As I went to see what she wanted the women stopped walking and seemed as though they were waiting to have another go.
As she pointed them out to me they then walked away.
It wont put me off going to Benidorm but you do have to be carefull don't carry large amounts of money or passports .
This was not at night it was around 2 in the afternoon.
do i really need to take my phone/passport/cards/all my money/house keys/ect. out with me.never have anything in your bag that has your home address in it.internet works well with pro;s
worst place to really is the exchange shops.once you have your money.spread it a round you if you can.your a easy target.you are the mark.and they will follow you for ages,
just have your wits about you.but most of all.enjoy your hols.don;t just let a few things like this put any one off.
Remember, wherever you are, there's someone after your money, so be alert.
One thing though, once you've taken these steps to be safe, enjoy your holiday and don't be put off by the silly things that some people do.
I have been to Benidorm 4 times now,but not sure if i would go back to the new town again. We have been thinking about looking at the old town, but im not sure what thats like as i've never been to that part.
Angela.
I feel sad about it as i love the place and hubby, but we broke last year and had a stress free hoiday elsewhere, as we are getting older now i don't want to be looking over my shoulder every 2 mins, if it improves will be back
Had a great week even the 5 days out of 7, thunder and lightning plus showers didnt dampen our break.
Found it busier last week than when we were there in August last year. Sign of recession ending, or just a more popular time??
The Main Caberet Bars always get busier from the first week in Sept, when the Spanish holidaymakers have gone home, also more couples and older tourists, rather than families with kids!
