A few observations -
We found that the Spanish people are very friendly but can be a little reserved unless you make the initial effort, then they will be only too happy to accommodate you, especially if you persevere with some basic Spanish - and mine is really, really, basic!!!
Taxis/transfers are astronomical, time and a half more than here in the UK, but buses are cheap and well run, so best to keep to public transport.
Yes, supermarkets do require ID if you pay by card but my husband just took an ID card he uses at work which has his photo on it and they were happy to accept this, also a passport or driving licence will do.
Most food in supermarkets is similarly priced to food in places like Aldi or Lidl in the UK, so self-catering is a good option. Eating out can be expensive if you only go to the restaurants on the seafront but if you try little cafes/bars further away where the Spanish go to eat and drink it is a bit cheaper.
We found most excursions, like taxis, way too expensive, much more expensive than in any other country we have visited including Italy which many quote as an expensive destination, so again, go DIY and use public transport.
If anyone has any questions fire away!!
