Great report, thank you for taking the time to write it for us all.
Sarah
Waterproof, why not stick to your Janet and John books.
Thank you so much for the report Dave! Arpora is where we usually stay, and will be there in 2 weeks time for 2 months. I found the report really interesting and had no problem reading it! Thanks once again for taking the time and trouble !!
I am very grateful for restaurant recommendations and am keeping a list of new ones to try in my little pink book.
thanks Debs
The Thai oriental is at The Hotel Mira in Calangute. They do a fantastic steak as well as Thai food which is excellent.
Daveswife, thanks i think i will be able to get him there now
Myonnas can vary according to which performers turn up on the night.
By accident we found another place for live music called Carvella in Baga and had an absolutely brilliant time and a good dance. I can't believe I have never heard it mentioned on this forum. It has a board outside advertising live events. The Group were Goan and consisted of 6 excellent musicians and a singer. Also it was open till 12 midnight.
Highly recommended just hope they are still performing when we go in March.
xx lassi
perhaps then you just shouldn't have posted.
Well, it may have been more helpful, it the Mod suggested using the browser to help.
"waterproof" if I may suggest, using your browser to 'zoom' the text. It does nothing about the paragraphs, of course, but the text becomes easier to digest - especially on screen
The people, the food. the beaches, the shack (Dolphin Place) our Hotel (The Mira) the Thia restaurant at the hotel (under seperate management) all were superb.
We had the pleasure of putting a few faces to the names of people that post on H/T, Polly 50 and O/H made all of us feel so welcome, at the meet at the Carvery,(hope you all enjoyed your trip to Agra and the far north.). We also had the pleasure of meeting Irish Colleen and O/H in the Dolphin Shack, who told us they had a fabulous time on the trip.
A special thanks to Mike Richardson for having me walk round Calangute for two days looking for happy days bar for after match drinks, when he really meant :- happy days (Mike I am putting it down to age)
I would like also to apologise to Dragon 07 for refering to him has Dave (Sorry Cliff) it was either the heat or the kingfishers most likely the latter.
Last but not least I would like to thank everyone at H/T for the advice and help afforded to me since joining the site, you have all helped to give us a holiday we will remember for years to come.
"WE WILL BE BACk "
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year To You All
The Preacher.
Glad most of you have enjoyed my report, there is of course no obligation to read it, but I'm always pleased if I can contribute in return for all the snippets of information that I have picked up that can be so invaluable.
Spike, your comment about Janet and John cracked me up, brilliant. I have a feeling that Waterproof's comments were more due to Jan and Johnny than his inability to digest a big block of words. Water off a duck's back as far as I'm concerned but for his benefit I will write little chunks this time !!.
A couple of points that are worth going back on:-
The steaks in the Thai appear to be fantastic. Proper big chunky fillets and I heard the owner say he has a special deal to get the best from his supplier.
Forgot to mention, I had two brilliant BBQ meals at the Marinha Dourada. Sat on the "promenade" in front of the first lake, the atmosphere is brilliant. A baby Kingfish to share makes it very economical too.
I have to agree, our view of the Wildernest was influenced by the recent weather but I think even if it had been dry the whole time we were there, 2 nights would have been sufficient. That gives you enough time to sample all on offer, (which was very limited whilst we were there). The food would still have been a problem to us but had we known we would have taken some snacks with us.The web asks you not to bring plastic or food into the resort but no one seemed bothered. The roof of our room has a plastic sheet over it to try and keep some water out and we were extremely envious of those who took their own nibbles to the bar as the pieces of green mango preserved in salt did nothing to ease our hunger !
I had a suit made at PR Enterprises in Baga which I am very pleased with, as is my o/h with her silk dress outfit. We also had a necklace made at Shalala ( set back off the road near After Seven) which we are delighted with and new glasses at Romano in Calangute.
Well that's all I can think of right now.
cheers
Dave
Preacher would you please add your review of the Mira here:-
Thanks for your review preacher
i agree great report dave i love reading any report just makes me feel happy to be going soon and feeling warmer in this cooold weather
annx
As usual, this is an excellent report.
There is one thing I would like to say in defence of waterproof's posting. He is actually correct regarding the difficulty of reading this report. It is not because it has been presented in a "block" way of writing but more to do with the lines being too long. This is, of course, the way these pages are designed.
Research has determined that lines which are too short or too long cause inefficient eye movement which makes it difficult to track from the end of one line to the beginning of the next.
The one or two liner responses are not a problem but the long reports I also find very heavy going so have to use zoom up to max of 400 to create weeny lines!
There are some very good opticians in Goa!!
i think this is one of the most informative reports i have read on H.T,i will clearly have to go back to school before i would even think of writing one!!!!
...........Now you just might have shamed me into doing a trip report on Cavelossim which is where I ended up staying for most of my holiday.
