difficult to say whether Saigon is better than BKK- they are just so different. However, BKK is a place I will continue to visit- even just for a few days now and again. Not so easy to do that with Saigon- the visas alone cost £43 each and you have to send away for them and provide exact dates of when you are going. It is also more expensive to fly to Saigon. The Vietnamese are investigating at the moment how to encourage more tourists and the visa problem is one they are looking at. Also I hear they are encouraging low cost airways into the country( Hanoi anyway, haven't investigated this myself yet)

Motorbikes- :yikes I almost considered stopping a taxi to take me across the road on the first day. How on earth we saw no accidents is beyond me. I have never seen so many bikes in my whole life( thought Bali had a lot before this!!)
To those who encouraged me to visit the Mekong Delta- thanks! It is possibly the best trip I have ever done.
The museums were interesting. I'm afraid I couldn't really stomach the War Museum and spent my time looking at the room they have on childrens war art- which made me incredibly emotional. The Military museum was a hoot- talk about one sided. Some of the captions were hilarious and I will have to add photos of them to the photo gallery.

The Cu Chi tunnels- how I actually made myself try the tunnel is unknown to me. I think the guide just didn't ask- he told us. Suffice to say if we ever revisit th Cu Chi tunnels I won't go through them again! And if he had mentioned bats beforehand I def. wouldn't have gone! Still, I'm glad I did( I think! ) How anyone lived down there day after day is beyond me( and they had widened the tourist section!)
We really want to try other parts of Vietnam.

Hi Fiona, Vietnam sounds really interesting. We're considering it for later this year, or maybe next year. For some reason I'd expected the Cu Chi tunnels to be illuminated, not dark and full of bats. I knew they had been widened for the tourists. Is it easy to get through? Thinking about the hubby - he's a big guy.

I think the heat was the worst thing about the tunnels, I was a wet rag when I came out, plus had a back ache from being bent over. But a great experience. The Mekong is really worth visiting isn't it? I stayed for two nights each at a couple of towns along the Delta, both times my room overlooked the river and it was fascinating to see river life from my balcony.

I was a wet rag too!! The tunnels are pitch black. If you are at all claustrophic don't go near them! The Cu Chi visit is well worth it, even without going down the tunnel.
