just booked flights to bangkok - first visit

hiya ,

We are really excited ! we've never been to thailand and have been wanting to go for ages. Its also our first go at diy holidaying.

We are landing on 10th november for 2 weeks

We plan to stay in bangkok for 2 nights then on to krabi and finally phi phi island

We have ideas of places to stay in bangkok and phi phi

but i have to say, we are a bit overwhelmed with the choices facing us in krabi

Does anyone have any suggestions for beaches/areas we should be looking around ? we would really appreciate it

We are looking for a beach hut on a quiet beach with access to the REAL thailand , we certainly don't want anywhere too commercial and are happy to go self catering along as there is somewhere to eat locally.

we've been looking on here on and off for a couple of years and i am looking forward to posting our experiences when we get back.

Just outside AoNang is Hat Nopparat Thara. There are a few bungalows along the beach. We were there in peak season, and it was really quiet.
Its a short longtail from AoNang itself, where you will find plenty of bars/restaurants - some of which are ecxellent - and from there onto the surrounding islands and beaches.

i am a little nervous about the longtails, are they easy to 'pick up' and are they expensive ?

First of all - you are going to enjoy Thailand !!!
Can I suggest that you stay an extra night in BK? Staying for two nights means that you probably only get one full day in BK and that is not enough time to even scratch th surface. There is so much to see and do that you might regret giving yourself so little time When you arrive in BK I will be only a few days away from leaving (Boo Hoo). There are plenty of web sites with loads of info.
