oh no, thats not good . we are looking around for decent sized hotels, and people have mentioned this hotel, maybe i will give it a miss.
We had friends travelling with us this year for the first time in Goa and they found the hotel excellent.
We where staying in the older part of the hotel, but we have seen the newer rooms and they look excellent.
Sorry to hear that you didn't find the same Nickm

We stayed there over Christmas and New Year and found it excellent, think we were in the old part too but it was cleaned every day and were going back this year again
the cleaning ,ok the towels were a bit on the grey side and the pillows like
rocks, but lots of hotels in Goa have this problem.

well to just add a little detail, the first room we were offered was a shocker, i don't expect too much from any hotel in Goa but the standard of cleaning was a real shocker, after offering the manager some rupees, he agreed to move us and although the second appartment was in our eyes quite poor, at least it was an improvement, i thought the staff were helpful but the towels smelt awful and if using them to dry after a shower, another shower was needed to get rid of the smell, there was also blood on one of the sheets on our bed. We're not serial complainers in fact the last time we went to Goa we stayed at the Phoenix Park and the standard of hygiene and cleaning was very good--we still had a fantastic holiday though because i think it's hard not to with the locals being as friendly as they were!
My husband and I have been to the highland beach eight times & we have already booked two weeks in Novemeber & three weeks next February.Yes the highland beach isn't spectacular like the Jamaica, Mexico etc, but the highland beach is as good as it gets in Goa.We have had very minor problems when we have stayed there, but who can say wherever they have been in the world that you don't have problems. The sheets are clean, even if they don't look it & we have never had them with any odour on them.We are of the opinion that as long as they are clean, then sparlking white doesn't matter, the sparking white is only achieved with using bleeches etc.Becuase we have been eight times, we prepare ourselves. The first thing we do is clean the room with anti-bacterial wipes, & ensure that the room boy keeps the room up to standard. We always take a pillow protectors with us, just to make us feel more comfortable. although there is no real need for this.
All we do is unpack & down to the beach ( spotties shack ) & have a fantastic holiday.

Must dissagree goa6, The Highland Beach is not as good as it gets in Goa, there's lots of better acommodation available.
Well said Lassigirl, and the more us tourists accept poor standards and pass it off as "it's Goa" it'll stay that way
I went to the Marinha Dourada and had no problems and yet friends of mine stayed at the HB and did nothing but moan!!
well at least i'm not on my own--and i agree highland beach is not as good as it gets in goa, i didn't expect too much--bloody sheets? takes more than anti-bac to get rid of that!
We have stayed at the Highland Beach 4 times (and have booked again for Jan 2009) and have always found it to be a great hotel. Its certainly better than the Dona Alcina. We always email the staff before we arrive for our favourite room and up to now we have had the room of our choice - within the second block near casa minolta. I always take anti bacterial wipes and clean the sinks etc but I would do this in any hotel in India.
e.g. the Phoenix Park, I hated that hotel and yet many people on here rave about it. The location is very good (if you like Candolim best) but the hotel to me was very much lacking in cleanliness IMO.
