Hello
I am a turkey 1st timer, me and hubby going in June for 3 weeks, and staying at the Kaan apartments we are in our early 50's. Is there anyone whos been there and could give us tips on trips, currency, weather, hotel and what sort of prices to expect to pay for things.
many thanks
Tracey

We tend to change about £50:00 into Turkish Lira before we go and then get the rest in the resort as we need it. We used to take lots of Twenty pound notes with us and change about a hundred at a time but now we just use our bank card as there are lots of cash machines all over the resort and you get a good exchange rate that way. With our HSBC acount we do not pay for cash withdrawls, but check and see what your bank will charge you for taking money out in the resort before you go. It is better to change a decent amount each time you get cash from the bank or dispenser if you have to pay a charge or it would cost a fortune more if you only took out thirty or forty pound each time. Do take some English Pounds with you though as you can sometimes get a decent deal in the shops, you will see all of the three for a tenner signs as soon as you walk in.
The boat trips are very popular and you can get some great AI deals for about ten or twelve pound, it may have gone up a little as we have been unable to go for the last two years due to my health. Someone else might be able to give you a more up to date price list for the resort. One thing we always do is have a Turkish bath and oil massage, you always come away from it feeling clean and really refreshed. We are like you and go for three or four weeks and have one at the beginning of the holiday and another a week or so later as they are really quite cheap but shop around.
We haven't stayed at the Kaan apartments before but were tempted to book them for this year to go in June until we saw where they were. There is a wee bit of a hill from the main road up to the apartments and I have a bit of trouble getting around now since I had a couple of spine ops and it might just be a bit too much. They are not very steep, but just a bit too much for me at the moment to have to climb several times a day.
There are loads of bargains to be had in the shops but you will find that a lot of it will not have a price, some of the shop keepers will ask you for what they think they can get away with so have a good look around at several shops and get a few prices before you buy. Same with any trips you book too, try several different agents and compare the prices.
There used to be a weekly market around the water park on the way up to the Kaan apartments but I don't know if it is still on, you will soon know if it is though as you have to walk through it to get to the main road. If you walk down to the main road and walk along towards Icmeler (right) for a slow five to ten minute stroll you will come to a Hotel on the same side called the Emre hotel. Behind there is a street called Artisan street where they sell locally made arts and crafts and pieces of cheap jewelry, some of it is quite nice and it's a nice way to spend some time either just before or just after your evening meal.
If you are prone to be bitten by the mozzies, go to any of the little shops or supermarkets and buy some lemon cologne. Buy a small spray and a large bottle to keep topping the spray up and keep it in your bag when you go out each night. Before you go out, spray your arms and legs, it really does help. You can also get a spray called Kov that most of the shops sell for just a couple of quid. My wife used to have a very bad reaction to the bites but now uses Avon skin so soft after her shower before we go out and then the Kov and the Lemon. We don't know which is the best but she has not been bitten now for years.
Last but very important, I don't know if you know or not but when you go through Dalaman airport on your way in, you have to queue for a visa before passport control. That will cost you ten pounds each, make sure you have an English ten pound note (not a twenty) in each of your passports.
If you want to know anything else please ask, we have been to Marmaris many times now so if we can help we will. You never know, we might even bump into you as we are there from the 8th of June for three weeks too lol.
Enjoy your holiday,
Jim.
thanks very much Jim that has been really useful, my hubby gets bitten bad so will definately get some lemon cologne as soon as we get there. We knew about the visas and already got 2 £10 ready lol.
Your welcome Tracey, I forgot to say before, if you decide to go along to that Artisan Street, check that it is still on first lol. With not being there for three years it might have closed and it must have been a couple of years before that since we last looked now that I think about it.
