Welcome back. I am so glad that you both had a very enjoyable holiday - I know you were a bit aprehensive before you left. Seems that you have caught the "Tunisia bug" - like me I went once and cant stop now. People say its a country you either love or hate and I am so glad that you love it.
I still write to people I met on my first visit and meet up with others who go back year after year. Second time will be even better because you will know whats what.

Honest, anyone going to Tunisia with young kids should seriously consider Kerkennah and there is not enough info about that place anywhere on the net.

Stress on quiet and safe - not for people looking for night life/parties/discos/sights but ideal for a really relaxing holiday in the sun.

Ok, time to book for next year... Can not wait to go back actually
Anyone else fancy Kerkennah? Anyone with teenagers around "15 yo 2 b next year" ?

Just wanted to say what a nice place kerkennah sounds, me and my fiance are going on 29th september and was a bit sceptical at first but after reading your review we are really really looking forward to going.

The main thing we was worried about was getting the money changed because for the first time ever we are taking travellers cheques with us and we wasn't sure whether they would be able to change them at the hotel but you said the do change them at reception so that has put our minds at ease.

It sound like such a wonderful place and i'm really excited about going, was the weather really nice when you went? I hope it will be so i can show my tan off when i get back lol

I'm 19 and my fiance is 20 and we just want a really relaxing holiday one where you feel like you've had a break and not one waking up every morning with a hangover so this really sounds like what we are looking for. We usually go to tenerife, playa de las americas and that is quite a lively resort but we aren't really into the clubbing scene and would much rather be sat on the beach chilling in the warmth of the sun listening to the waves.

You know you said about if anyone is going with kids next year to let you know...well my parents seem rather interested in kerkennah and are waiting to hear what i think of it when i go, so if i find it as wonderful as you did you may well be hearing from me again. I have 4 younger brothers, their ages next year will be, 15,14,10 and 8. So may be in touch soon.

Again thank you for your review it has been really helpful and has made us look forward to our holiday instead of worrying about it

how much money roughly did you take with you, we prob won't need quite so much because i wouldn't have thought we would go on quite so many excursions as you did but we would like to go on a few.

As I have stressed - Kerkennah is not a place for "party animals" but if you want a really relaxing break.... highly recommended.

Money-wise.. I was there with my 14 yo daughter who loved whatever she saw and also develeped some kind of liking for any game there was going on in the eveing (bingo, lucky5, raffle.. you name it - she wanted money for it). Anyway - to this day I chose not to think about how much I have spent
As far as souvenirs.. they do that lovely thing - you can have your name written in Arabic in either silver or gold (gold includes a chain - necklace) and I got a few of those for me, my daughter, my mother, my other half



Prices of drinks/food/trips/extras I have mentioned already n my other post, have a look - it should give you a pretty good idea.

There is a cash machine in Remla, travel cheques you can exchange in the hotel.

Do not worry, just enjoy as we did
As to your brothers - wawwwwwwwwwwwwww, great I can already visualise them and my daughter and her Kerkennah friends pushing one another into the pool all day long Just get your parents to bok 27/07 - 11/08

Hello every body.
First of all, I'd like to thank the users of this forum and specially Anna-London. for your positive and sincere feed-back regarding Tunisia.
I'm a tunisian citizen and I've been living in the U.S for the past 5 years. I'm a travel enthusiast like the majority in this forum, and I had the chance to visit many places.
I've visited the island of Kerkennah in 2000 and spent there only one day. I fell in love right away with the nature and the uniquness of the island in general. I recall we were walking by the sea, at least two different fisherman were grilling fresh fish asked us to join them with a great smile and sincerity. In the small village of "Er Ramla" poeple were greeting us in the street and thanking us for visiting their island, and even the taxi driver asked us if we would like to have lunch at his house when we told him that this our first time in the island.
In Tunisia we have about 1283 km of beaches, and Kerkennah's was one of the finest.
I've met someone here who is originally from Sfax (the city across the sea from Kerkennah) and I asked him why the Tunisian office of topurism didn't encourage touristic investments in the island? and he told me that , that's in order to preserve the beauty and uniquness of the island and don't disturb it's harmon. I believe that was a wise decision ,because if Kerkennah starts having hundred of thousands of visitors each year, it's gonna be crowded, noisy... and not any more the way it is supposed to be. It's sad that not many poeple know about it, but I think it's one of the main factors that is helping it in preserving it's charm and beauty.
Finally, I'd like to thank all of you again, and I wish that you'll keep on visiting Tunisia every year.
( P.S I forgot to mention that Kerkennah, as Anna-london said, is just to relax and forget about the whole world, it's not a good destination for s.body looking for 5 star hotels or packed bars and clubs. the paste is reaaaaaaaally slow, which helps me personnally to enjoy my drinks , swim and let the sun warm my body

We are thinking of going to the hotel Grand at Kerkennah. Are there any shops close by to purchase bottled water, crisps, fruit, etc. If not how much for these items in the hotel?
Is the hotel food spicey?
The coach transfer from Monastir to the port, are the roads mountainous and windey?

There is a small souvenir shop inside the hotel grounds but it does not sell any of the things you mention - some chewing gum and basic sweets, nothing to wrtite home about.

Buying things outside (a taxi ride to the village - Remla) and bringing it into the hotel is not something I have seen people doing and obviously hotel does not like this.

You can buy bottled water in the hotel of course - some selection of drinks too but they are sold by glass (no cans/bottles to take away with you to your room if this is what you are asking).

Food at the hotel is not very spicey - there is always a selection to chose from anyway (buffet style) plus you have a pizza place on the beach (not included - have to pay extra of course)

There is no mountains on the way from Monastir to Sfax

I am thinking of booking to go there, and wondered would the hotel be ok for children? I have a 10 yr old boy who would be 11 by the time we went and a 7 year old girl who would be 8
It said that the hotel had its own kids club, but I would imagine that your daughter would not have been interested in going to that

Just got back from Tunisia (Hammemet and PEK this ime) - will post in a while, got to unpack first
Generally, 10-11 yo will not be happy in a kids club, they will probably prefer to "hang out" by the pool with other 10-11 yo LOL

Last year there was no kids club at Grand at all - check with Panorama before going/booking please.

I have heard that Grand was refurbished to a better standard (not that there was anything wrong with it before).

I went on last minute allocation on arrival this time - ended up in Hammamet and PEK, will post an update later on (flew back in at 6pm to Stansted toda LOL)
