Sunbear, the Imperial Boat House is the place we keep looking at. Have you stayed there? The little boats looks fabulous, what an unusual place that would be to stay for your 2 week holiday.
no I've not stayed at the Boathouse although I have been around it. Others on this site give it good reviews though. I've heard mixed reports about the actual rice barge rooms themselves, mainly that thay are a bit dark inside...to be expected if your room is made of wood. I've stayed at other hotels in the Imperial group and they have been fine.
We just used to visit the beach and spend all day on it using the facilities of the beach restaurants, they were great supplying us food and drink to our deck chair and lounger and we'ed settle up at the end of the day.
unfortunately we are still waiting for the Boathouse's first review.
Didn't oap and prada stay there recently..they'll have the latest up to date info...as its a good few years since I visited KS and things do change. I get a wider choice on my Thailand destinations weatherwise as I take my main hols in our winter which is why I've not been back recently.
I can definitely recommend the Imp Boathouse - you won't regret it if you choose to stay there, in fact take me with you - please??!
Thanks sunbear thats brilliant We are just looking about just now but will probably book up over the next month or two. Thailand is different for us, and just somewhere we have never been before. Must admit it looks fab. We also go away in the British winter (wonder why ). already booked for 3 visits to Goa cant wait! thanks again
The Imperial Boathouse
Just checked on the hotel review page and the Boathouse is listed twice - once under Imperial Boathouse and once under The Imperial Boathouse. The reviews are all on
that explains it prada! I did think you had posted a review. I have requested that the second one be deleted. Unfortunately this may take some time as only our webmaster can do this and he is rarely online these days.
I take it Chaweng beach is busy and commercialised? I thought Bo Phut beach area looked nice, more relaxed, with things to do, would I be right?
Or any other nice beach areas in Koh Samui (apart from Bo Phut) that anyone would recommend? As long as its not too quite, has a few nice restaurants etc for night time, then we would be happy.
We are thinking about 3 nights in Bangkok (probably the Holiday Inn) and 11 nights in Koh Samui.
Anymore advise would be appreciated and thanks again folks
we stayed in Chaweng the first time we went to KS but it was too busy and I remember I was disappointed with it- it wasn't what I expected. ( I still enjoyed my holiday though!). Bophut was exactly what I was looking for. It is also a short journey into Chaweng if you want a change.
Thanks Fiona youre a star. if I dont speak to you again then have a fantastic holiday.
thanks Gemma!
Hi everyone, some good info on here. We are thinking of KS over Christmas. What's the weather like then? When is the best time to go anyway? Thanks!
We were speaking to Geng who works at Bongoes restaurant and he told us that Christmas is not a good time to visit KS as the weather is not too good, the sea actually comes right upto the beach restaurants and they have to put sandbags everywhere therefore they all shut down over this period. He said the area is very very quiet.
Some friends of mine stayed at Samui last Xmas and they had about 10 solid days of rain - I think from the 15th of Dec so I think it can be too risky at that time of year - If I were to go back to Thailand at Xmas I would go back to Krabi- it is stunning and the weather is perfect in December.
thanks again
Gemma, if you've the chance to stay at the boathouse - go for it. Our friends stayed in one of the rice barges last year and thought it was too dark so when they returned with us this year we stayed in a premier room which was superb but I think all their rooms looked good. In Bangkok we stayed at the Landmark [ their breakfast has to be seen to be believed]
Thanks oap thats great. We are just a bit concerned that it might be rainy in late aug/early sept, its the only thing that is putting us off. have you ever been at that time of year?
No Gemma, we went in March but I thought it was ok at the time you wanted to go. Anyhow have a great hol - we're off to Turkey in 5 weeks and Goa in Jan. Good Luck
