Hubby suffers from bronchitis so is sometimes chesty. How steep is the hill? Also we spend a lot of time around the pool. Is it a nice area? How far would you say the Koni is from the main stretch as opinions we have read tend to vary on this. Sorry for all the questions but we have narrowed our choices down to 2 - the other being the Socrates, so some small detail could swing it one way or the other. Thanks.

It is fairly steep and it depends what rooms you have as to how bad it get's really,it goes up and up quite a bit, once you get to the reception you can get up and down steps which make it a bit easier. It's about 20 mins to the centre of Stalis they put a new underpass about 100yds from the Koni this year and you can cut through the side of the cactus beach without risking life and limb on the main road now.The pool areas are both very nice but the big pool gets a lot of kids and teens round it and get's noisy, the little pool is a lot more relaxing.Just one more small warning Helen, the Koni now attracts quite a few more teenagers than it used to and in August on a couple of occasions we found the supposed security at night weren't doing a very good job and it sometimes got noisy in the early hours and I'm by no means an early bird we just aviod it in August and stop there in June.I have to stress it is a very nice place very very clean and all of the staff even down to the cleaners are very friendly,we have stopped at many places round Stalis over the years and none are as good as the Koni.
Hope it helps if you there's anything else about Stalis you want know just ask.

Going to Koni Village in Aug 2008. Couple in our 50's but still like a good time. Not partying all night though! Just want to chill out & relax. Apartments ok? Been to greece few times & know they basic but just want them to be clean. Any hints on trips & where to eat?

Hi bbking
Have been going to the koni for many years now it's probably the best place to stop in the area.Very clean and tidy, fairly spacious rooms. It can get a bit noisy occasionally in August as there are quite a few teens staying there at this time,we used to go in August but stick to June now but it is still a good place.Places to eat Katerinas if you walk left out of koni don't take short cut to beach road through bypass walk down to end of road cross and walk towards anthoussa beach hotel about 50 yards on left is Katerinas George and his wife make you so welcome and the food is always very good always has loads of boards outside advertising what's on.Walk down to anthoussa beach hotel turn left and walk about 50 yards again, on right is the artemis the food there is always very good and the main waiter yianni is a real card with a great sense of humour when you get to know him.If you want a real treat and don't mind a decent walk turn right out of koni and walk towards Malia after a good 20mins you'll arrive at a little place right on the main road before you enter Malia called the kreta it is absolutely the best just a small menu all the food is fresh cooked and George the owner is fantastic, the place is always full of greeks and don't even try to get in at the weekend regulars only. One night carry on into Malia and go into the old village a totally different world from the main parts of Malia if you can find petrinos in there that's another nice place opposite a big place called san giorio aviod the place awful touristy.Try spinalonga it's well worth the trip.
Don't bother with star beach horrible place.Try the beachcomber one night they have live music most nights that's not too bad but the place has a really good atmosphere and the chairs are comfortable too.
Hope it gives you some ideas bb if there's anything else I can help you with I'll try

bbking,

Koni apartments are well above basic. Would think you'll be quite pleased with them. The apartments are about 10 minutes walk to the Beach Road and nightlife. They are situated at the Malia end of Stalis (15 minutes walk away) and when we stayed there (in 2005) we never actually made it into the centre of Stalis, we were quite happy to stay in the area between the junction with the traffic lights to the left and the road to the beach on the right. Bars are plentiful and some very nice restaurants and a great beach.

Staying at Koni Village in August. Seems to be a few different blocks for accomodation. Are all the blocks good are some better than others. Not really bothered but like to know before I go what to expect. Hope these apartments are as good as the reviews I've read. Not read anything positive about the restaurant though! Sounds like Stalis is a nice place to stay, looking forward to it.
