Hi Fiona

There's a brilliant street just off Bukit Bintang, called Jalan Alor, which is lined with restaurants. They are mainly Chinese style and a lot of them have fish tanks outside, to pick your own meal fresh from the tank

I can't remember the name of the one we ate at - we just walked along and chose one with lots of local-looking people - but we had an excellent meal at a really cheap price :)

thanks Elaine- will def give it a try :D

You could try the revolving restaurant at the Menara telecom tower. The foods OK, but the setting gives a great view of the night lights of KL.

We found a Sundanese restaurant on Bukit Bintang where the food was good if perhaps a little chain restaurant like.

High Tea at Carcosa Seri Negara is something to consider, but its a short trip out of the centre of KL that some taxi drivers don't want to do. In the end we had to use the Ritz Carlton taxis to do it as ordinary cab drivers would not take us.

I like the idea of the Menara sunbear. Not sure about having the time for high tea but I'm taking a note of all suggestions :D

just been looking at Menara and Jalan Alor and I'm pretty certain we will give both a good. Also looked at Carcosa Seri Negara and quite fancy that too :D

If you want to eat at the Menara Tower, I'd suggest booking it in advance. We tried to have lunch there but it was completely booked and I'd imagine that it's even more popular at night.

Go to Petaling Street market in China town and try the street food- the satay we had was incredible- not been beaten since anywhere.

I have eaten at the street food stalls in China town in the past. Cheap meals, lots of choice and up to now no unwanted side effects. I also has some good food at restaurants around Bukit Bintang/Jalan Alor.

Likewise no unwanted side effects - just fab though- plastic tables, chairs, plates and sizzling satay woth an ice cold beer :D

I think this will be a really useful thread to keep for others.

You can't beat a meal in China Town- also if staying in the Shangri- La you could have a meal at the bottom of the Petronas Towers . Don't do what we did and had a meal in TGIs - in need of food but was the dearest meal we had in KL. Its worth up grading to the Horizon Club in the Shangri- la- includes free breakfast, after noon tea and cocktails. It also lets you have breakfast on the ground floor where there is a chocolate fountain . Enjoy- I'm off to Penang a week on Wednesday- Hawkers , Kampong and Marios here I come.

Petronas might be an idea for our first night. We don't arrive till early evening and I can't imagine us wanting to go too far.( I've booked the horizon club so looking forward to that :D )

Yes there is a whole floor of restaurants in the Suria mall by the Petronas Towers...quite posh Thai and Malaysian as well as others. Down on the bottom floor there is even a fish and chip shop :)

fish and chips??? I'm not going all the way over their to have fish and chips

We have found Jalan Alor the best for chinese style food.

Istana curry house is supposed to be one of the best in KL (it is almost hawker style so doesnt look like much it is situated on Jalan Sultan Ismail between the Shangri La hotel and bukit bintang it is on a basement/ground floor beneath a club/pub).

If you are in KLCC there are 2 food courts with offering food from many different countries (there is a large one on the 3rd floor and a smaller one on the top floor)
