It's an easy walk to the beach and town from La Vallee. You will need the car though for a supermarket trip. The road outside is actually very quiet and there are only a few trains operating on the line. It's a tourist train so you don't have the noise of express trains etc. We were in a tent there in 2002 and weren't aware of the trains at all.
