Hi Danielle, yes I saw that too, but I really don't think that it is your hotel they were talking about, the have been complaints in The Times of Malta this week about noisy students in the Diplomat hotel and something tells me it could be this, now chill out and relax you will have a great time in Malta, the weather is superb at the moment.

Hi Danielle

I went to the St George's Park in Oct 2000. It's right in the centre of St Julian's so it was quite noisy, but nothing that a good pair of ear plugs couldn't sort out. We didn't have any problems with anything while we were there. It's true that there have been some very negative reports about the hotel both on here http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/reviews/malta/st-julians/st-georges-park-hotel/ and http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/reviews/malta/st-julians/la-vallette-resort-hotel/
and on Holidays uncovered (http://www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk/) over the past few years, but also some positive ones as well. Hopefully one of the other members on here will have been there recently and be able to let you know what the current situation is.

Hi Danielle, I did'nt see the program Package Holidays uncovered, but from what you say I think it will have been the St. George's Park Complex and it's sister Hotel La Valletta, My husband and I stayed there a few years ago and it's because of that hotel we will never return to Malta, Its surrounded by night clubs that go on till 4am, the staff at the hotel were so rude and unhelpful, food uneatable, (We both got food poisoning whist there) the bedroom was dirty timed the cleaner one day took 4 minutes for her to clean our room, Thankfully we were on a lower floor so did not have to use the lifts to often as they also left a lot to be desired.
The First Choice Rep was the biggest waste of time.
I do wish you a good holiday, but unless this Hotel has changed a lot in the last few years, can't see you enjoying the hotel/

Hi Danielle
I think customers either love or hate Malta. I'm in the love category and would stay anywhere in Malta just to actually be there.
Pojo is correct in saying about noise levels etc around St Georges/La Vallette. We first started going there before La Vallette was finished being built. My daughter was 5 at the time. She loved it and so did we, but sleeping was a bit of a problem for us. Its a bit like being in Blackpool on the Seafront but with better weather. The clubs close about 3/4am ish then the clean up starts, then the building noise starts, along with deliveries, staff coming into work.....It never seems to be quiet. But we did get used to it and we were on the top floor. We always went self catering. So can not comment on food quality.

If you are aware of the things to expect at a hotel, then it doesn't seem as bad when you actually get there. But this is just my opinion. I love St Georges and adore Malta. This forum is the best place to get all the info you need. Everyone has different opinions and all are valid opinions.
Where ever you end up, have the best holiday ever!! :glynis

Quote "I think customers either love or hate Malta" oh no not again, this spurious phrase should be in the official world guide to urban myths :bhead but at least Dizzyb23 is trying to be positive to help Danielle as she obviously likes and enjoys the place which is great, however, to quote pojo earlier in this thread " Hi Danielle, I did'nt see the program Package Holidays uncovered, but from what you say I think it will have been the St. George's Park Complex and it's sister Hotel La Valletta" ????. Quite frankly in my opinion this comment is bang out of order, she has only ever been to Malta once before and only ever stayed in this one hotel yet she thinks she knows all about Malta and automatically becomes a Maltese hotel guru through this one visit ? , the sister hotel to St Georges Park is actually called La Vallette not La Valletta so she can't even get the name right, the point that I am trying to make is that people assume to much without knowing the true facts, the potential knock on effects of this are avoidable negativity and potential upset to people like Danielle who are asking for advice to put there mind at rest so that they can start looking forward to there holiday, we as experienced travellers to Malta are here to assist but not to make things worse for them by un-founded speculation.

 Sorry Sliema2. I know that phrase must be annoying to keep hearing but it just appears to be so true. I've no idea why!! And equally, i've no idea why ANYONE would not be in love with Malta. I've been a huge fan since I first went many years ago. Its the best. If anyone asks me where they should go for a holiday, Malta wins hands down. But I know there are some that don't feel this way.
We are all different and love different things. Again apologies if my comment upset or offended you. Thats the last thing I wanted to do.
And i'm sure the lady going on holiday to either St Georges or La Vallete will have a wonderful time and won't want to leave. :P

Hi Dizzy :wave , no need to apologise, you love Malta probaly as much as we do and that's great, that phrase just really winds me up for some reason but you most certainly haven't offended me although I really do appreciate your kind words, I really enjoyed reading your positive review of your holiday it sounds like you had a great time in magical Malta :P

Warm wishes

Phew!! Thats a relief!! Glad I haven't upset you. You are so right about me loving Malta. To me its the greatest place ever. We enquired about moving there a few years ago as this would be a dream come true for me but it requires money we didn't have. So its as many holidays as we can afford instead.
Do you live there? My fave holiday was in St Georges Park Appts. It was cheap and most definately cheerful. I would recommend it to anyone. And yes its a bit noisy but thats part of the fun. We've also stayed in Qawra Palace a few times and loved that too. The food is so good. And the view is amazing from the sea view rooms :D
And i'm a huge fan of the buses. Will surely miss them. Hope you are well and again my best wishes to you.

Many thanks once again for your kind words Dizzy it's very nice of you to show such consideration :) , but even if you had upset me then it would be just one of those things, these forums are all about opinion and every now and then we will all upset someone or even be upset however genuine and unintentional all our motives are.

With you on the busses, we still love them after all these years they are still great fun and a real novelty, where possible we would rather wait for an old one to come along other than wait for a modern one (sad or what but we don't care) hope there will still be plenty left when we return next month, we also stayed at the St Georges once, it was fine we were there B&B so didn't use the restaurant, and we were lucky with the noise as I had a tip off about the surrounding area so I requested an inland room and we never heard a peep, anyway thanks again Dizzy we are well as I hope you and yours are, out of interest when are you next back in Malta ?.

We are hoping either March or September next year. Hopefully both. I'm very lucky as my new hubby loves Malta too!! I took him there when we were just friends when there was a group of us a couple of years back and we all went to the Qawra Palace. He loved it. We've been again since. So its really easy to talk him into going back. And it doesn't cost too much.

I don't think you are sad at all about the buses. We do the same thing. I refuse to get on a new one. We stand at the stops for ages but I don't care. These vehicles are so special. Particularly the Leyland Tiger Cub buses as my Grandad designed and helped to build them way back in the 50's. And I was born in Leyland in Lancashire, so those buses mean a lot to me. I've had my picture taken quite a few times standing next to them. I'm proud of them!! :D

If i'm really lucky, we might get over to Malta for a week in November!!
Fingers crossed.

Hi Dizzy, some good deals for November with Chevron, aswell as being back in September we are also back November and February 2006 but this time with Chevron, and both prices are very reasonable indeed.

Funny you should say that as last year we decided to give Chevron a try. They were amazing!! The best prices, no problems, easy to sort things out with etc. But what impressed me the most was when the Qawra Palace had their suspected Legionnaires outbreak last year(we were in the middle of our holiday), it was absolute chaos. But the chevron rep and the company themselves were wonderful. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to move everyone out of that huge hotel asap and find rooms for us all. They managed it really quickly, put us somewhere temporary for the night, got us some drinks etc. The following day they found us a hotel that was much better and was AI. The Soreda if my memory serves me right. Wonderful.
And when we got back, a week later we had a cheque for £60.00 to cover our expenses as we weren't in an all inclusive for a night!!
This firm do know what customer service is. We will be going to Malta with them from now on.
And just in case anyone reading this is worried about the Qawra Palace, please don't be, we were evacuated just as a precaution, they do not have Legionnaires disease and its a lovely hotel. This was the Maltese Government acting correctly in a situation. Bless them.

Is this the programme?
http://www.packageholidayundercover.co.uk/programmeinformation.htm
You aren't mixing it up with the report about a noisy hotel in Majorca (Pensioners in Purgatory) I cannot see anything about a hotel in Malta, probally just me being thick :hmmm :rofl

Hi Ingliza, yes that is the programme but not the hotel, it was in the first programme of this series that went out on tuesday 19th july that the presenter deffinitely made verbal reference to them receiving telephone calls from people about a noisy hotel in Malta, and if they get more calls then they would send a reporter out undercover ( oooo sneaky or what ?) to investigate and they would broadcast the report on this weeks programme which was tuesday just gone, anyway there was no report so it must of been yet another over exagereated story about Malta, but in the Times of Malta that week I had read a few letters etc about the Diplomat Hotel in Sliema being over run with extremely noisy students so I still reckon it was that hotel and not the St Georges hotel that another well travelled and extremely knowledgeable Malta expert  had suggested a little earlier in this thread , also fully agree with and endorse your comments about people saying stupid and unfounded things about Malta, but you know what some people are like lights on no one at home etc, I don't know why these people don't just stay at home and holiday in filey, rhyl, or blackpool, and leave the good places to those people who really appreciate them for what they are.

I have stayed at the la valette hotel back in 2000, so i would like to hope that the standard of accomodation has increased by now, and the levels of hygeine have increased and the edibility of the food improved!

Considering the location of these hotels, and their proximity to the nightclubs and bars, im suprised that this very small area of malta hasnt so far become an 18-30's destination! The noise when were were there was horrendous, and even after moving rooms AND using earplugs i still could not sleep - both my partner at the time and my mother are both deaf in one ear and had no trouble getting to sleep by kipping on their good one to drown out the noise, and my daughter sleeps like a log.

It was bad to the point of cars trying to get out of spaces at 4 am by ramming the car infront of them, litter being strewn everywhere and left where it lay, and just when you thought it was all over the bin trucks and delivery trucks would start to arrive!

Malta itself was a nice place, and the people friendly and some things to get out and about to see, but i would advise against going to these hotels unless you are up for clubbing everynight and making the noise rather than listening to it.

There are other hotels in other resorts that totally outshine these two sister complexes. (bugibba/qawtra, where there are a few large hotels along the sea front, with spectacular views, infact, any other area apart from st julians / paceville) although there is a rather large resort with casino 5* on the outskirts of this area which was amazing!!

Yes you were right, but only by default, it was only a guess based on your very limited experience of Malta, it could realistically of been any hotel in any resort, your guess certainly wasn't based on fact or current information, at the time of your guess there were reports in the local press about other hotels being over run with noisy students (Malta does have more than one hotel) so it could very easily of been one of these, so because you were merely speculating without knowing any facts then your guess could of upset and even spoilt Danielle's holiday which isn't fair, and is certainly not what these forums are for, we could all go around speculating about things we don't really know about, but what is the point of that ? and what could the implications of such behaviour be ?.

Sliema2

Ps, you have also spelt my name wrong ????.
