This wont help folks in other areas of Lapland, but have just checked the Yllas webcams ------ its looking good for anyone going there!
I'm gutted absolutely gutted, taken me YEARS to talk my husband round to spending this kind of money to go to Lapland and this is what happens. I pray by 9th December its COVERED.
Keep everything crossed for me guys.. I'm gonna need it
I know what you mean about gutted. I was in tears last week - couldnt get my head round it at all. These trips cost such a lot of money and you just don't expect the unthinkable! Good Luck!
JandP
ahh you're a star.
Don't know if this helps - its from the Yllas web site but shows other areas of Lapland and this looks good for the end of next week! You have to click on the map to the right and it will bring up other parts of Lapland -
has anyone been yet this year if so what is it like
To everyone who is going......have a magical trip and look forward to your review on this site.
13 days for us ............
Hi all
woooohooo
We are thinking of booking for next christmas 2007 so can you all post your reports when you return please
Thanks Ali
Reading on another forum of a person who returned today from Rovaniemi, plenty of snow apparently
Just got back yesterday from Levi in lapland. The snow was about a foot deep when we arrived on the 3rd and it has snowed all week. The snow plough had to clear hotel each morning to enable people to get about. It was -5 at night so not too cold. Had the best time ever even better than our last visit 5 years ago. Went by First Choice couldnt fault a thing. Stayed at white reindeer no complaints at all. Any questions please ask
Glad you enjoyed it.
We have looked at the white reindeer a room with a sauna, was it half board and what were the rooms like? also did you go skiing?
Thanks Ali
We stayed full board all meals buffet style with First Choice, they also provided all suits hats gloves boots you require and included a day out in the elves workshop a husky ride and a snowmobile taster. Our room had a sauna, rooms were clean and quite basic but very cosy. We dont ski just a bit of tobogganing with our son. Last time my husband did a ski school but thats all. I believe that the slopes, which are only a few minutes walk away are the biggest in Lapland. there are about 3 slopes nearby but 10 in all and there is a ski bus service. I think i read the slopes here are used for competitions. There is lots of info on http://www.levi.fi also live web cams and hourly still photos.

Snow mobile on a huge iced over lake - BRILLIANT
Huskies - Short ride but worth every second
Food - surprising appetising (warm berry juice was delicious)
Reindeer Sleigh ride to see Santa - amazingly exciting
The big man himself (Santa) - OMG I'm speechless. Attention to detail was unbelievable. I came away almost believing it was really him myself.
'The Helpers' - Truly accommodating, extremely friendly, couldn't do enough for you. Completely made the trip memorable.
Logs around an open fire. candles everywhere. amazingly friendly atmosphere. small gift shop (reasonable prices, MUCH better than I expected). beautifully, festive, decorated indoor dining area. all day BBQ. 'Helpers' couldn't do enough for us to make this an amazingly special day. I could go on and on.
There WAS snow (hoooraahhhh) albeit a little slushy due to 'freak' warm weather. BUT the advantage was we weren't cold in the slightest (WOOHOO). The Clothing and boots supplied were PERFECT.
Most of all... my children came away with the most memorable day EVER!!!!
I have so much to say but if anyone wants to know anything, I'd be happy to answer any questions. I WILL just say this.... IF you have children, do everything in your power to GO, you WON'T regret it!!!
6 days now until we go to yllas, feel very stressed out today thinking of all that i need to do before Sunday !!
Merry Xmas
ahh I'm sure you'll have a lovely time too. DO post how it goes, would be nice to see what happens in another place. All the very best for then
