We want to book lapland for Dec 07 but I have read so many different reivews etc am completely confused. Have priced up a few and would welcome any advice.
We have decided Canterbury Travel are too expensive as they are coming out at about £4300. I then looked at Cosmos who had a good 3 night package for about £2600. However it took off from gatwick and landed in Manchester for about 1 hour so that put me off a little!
The others I have looked at is 3 nights in Sariselka with Esprit at the holiday inn, I thinked that one was about £2700 and lastly the much cheaper first choice holidays at Levi (white reinder) of Yllas (snow princess) which come up at about £2300 for 4 nights. I have read loads of bad things about First Choice in Lapland but I must admit the few reviews I have read on hear look quite good so really do not know what to do. Hubby isnt quite as keen as me, so obviously the cheaper price I get the better, but do not want to go too cheap and regret it. Please is there anyone who can help me decide!
Have sent you a private message but I found first choice fantastic.Maybe its the luck of the draw but we had a fab time. The holiday is expensive and the two trips we added on were very expensive but they made the holiday extra special and one to remember! My girls still cant stop talking about it and I know this xmas they will be remembering it and wishing they were there! Me likewise!!

Welcome to HT Poe, this is a lovely site where people will help as much as they can.
Presto.....have a fab time, I look forward to your review.
The different companies and tours can boggle your mind, but try and work out exactly what you want to do for your holiday. Canterbury are expensive but very good (we have friends who go with them every year for a 4 day break to Lapland).
We went Dec 2006 with Inghams. Had a fab time, stayed in Yllas Log Cabins.
We had tried to book again with Inghams for this year, but could'nt get anything. However...... by chance whilst cruising the Inghams site Gatwick flights became available for Dec 23rd so we are off again. This time staying in Villa Armas as Yllas Cabins were booked, but we met people who stayed in the Armas and were happy with them.
We will book our trips independantly again which was a great success.
So 11 months and counting, the kids can't wait to return (and neither can hubby or I)
Bye for now

Jammie - have you thought of doing a week in lapland instead, it works out the same as the 3 and 4 day trips, I know that with the shorter trips you get the rides included but I have heard that it can be a bit of a convayor belt arrangement, with one on and one off, brief rides and little time, perhaps you should look at inghams, we paid £2200 for 2 adults and 2 kids going on the 23rd Dec staying the in yllas log cabins, we have budgeted for about £100 a day for activities, so we reckon we will spend £3000 in total for the holiday and the trips, the trips are longer than the ones you will get on the short hols too, maybe you should look at this option, I know that going out on the 16th dec is about £1600 for the same deal as going the xmas week.
We had temperatures from minus 14 to an average minus 24 to 2 days at minus 31 -------------- it was magical (and I really feel the cold!)
If you go prepared then you wont find a better, more special place ---- oooohh Paphos, you've found a Winter rival!!!!!!!!!!
(We only returned late last night so will post reviews later when I have more time -------------)
Thanks to anyone who has helped with reviews - all of your ideas re clothing and how to look after your skin was priceless!

Welcome home Prestos
I used to think that a donkey sanctuary in Cyprus was my main aim in life - now a reindeer / husky farm in Yllas comes to mind!
We never imagined putting a cold winter holiday in front of a hot summer holiday, but this was the best ever.
Look forward to hearing your views and comments.
Did you go to Julli's? Fantastic food and great atmosphere definitely.
Bye for now

Have just booked again for next year and simply can not wait. If anyone ever wonders whether to book Lapland or not then my advice is just don't hesitate -----------
Sorry to post again but can any moderator help please - do I need a link creating under the reviews section so that I can add a review of the Akas Hotel Cabins?
Presto can you pop some details here for me, the name of the hotel, the resort/region, country, how many stars the hotel is and so on. I will then add it for you in the right place and give you a link so that you can add your review.
The info is:
The Akas Hotel Cabins
Yllas
Lapland
3 star plus
We travelled vis Inghams Feb 2007
(and have already booked for 2008 - )
Cheers
I have added your hotel
Sorry to post here as I wasn't sure how to contact.
Reviews submitted (whoops were were a couple not singles but never mind - my fault!)
Have done a resort review as well - where's that gone? Its a long one so would hate it to disappear somewhere.
Cheers
Just writing this makes me want to go back now!
Thanks Fiona - have just found it !
I'll ask admin to change it for you
In general though Lapland was excellent and magical for the kids. I would rate Lapland 8/10 - Snow Elf Hotel rooms 1/10 and First Choice holidays 1/10
We're planning a trip to Levi, staying at the Immelmokit Cabins - has any one been? if so your views would be appreciated. We're also planning on eating H/B at the K5 - anyone done that? if so your views would be appreciated.
We're going with Inghams and hiring thermal suits via them. Do you know how quick you get them ie are they there when we arrive or do we have to wait until the next day?
Have called Inghams today who said they could'nt help!!!
We were there last year the week before xmas, but don't remember seeing any in the supermarket or locally in Yllas village.
Certainly don't want to take one with me!!!
Any ideas..........thanks
