Hi Rachie

Just a thought - hubby and I had the same issue so we had a look at going in February. If you have no children and are not just going for the Christmas season it is a fantastic time to go, LOADS cheaper and simpoly magical

be careful with feb as it's half term here and in Finland and the cost is the same as christmas, so if you can steer clear and also, go for a last min cheapy, inghams had them last year

Yip, agree with that. A similar tip is that in Yllas last year the main Finnish holiday was the week after the UK half term and it was heaving with people. That is one to avoid as well!

Hi

Have just checked the Yllas website http://www.yllas.fi and found a guest book and some photographs of Yllas from a visitor. I have checked them and they are lovely shots of a great family time there -- hope it is ok to share this site on HT --- didn't think any of you mods would mind

Had a look at those pictures and they are fantastic.
A credit to the peron who has taken them ..... they capture exactly what Lapland is all about.
Can't wait to get mine developed now, been home 12 days and still not done it.
For those who are off to Yllas, Levi, etc you will have such a great time :)

Hello
Am thinking about having a ski holiday in Lapland - Levi. Can someone tell me a bit about the place? We're mostly beginner/intermediate skiers with a beginner snowboarder. What's the skiing like? Also one of the group may not ski, is there a restaurant or somewhere where at the bottom of the slopes where he can sit and watch? There seems to be lots of intertesing non-skiing excursions. What's the ice fishing/icelandic horseriding/dog sleighing etc like? Has anybody stayed at the Crazy Reindeer? Also, and probabaly more importantly, is the place expensive? Have heard that food and drink is really expensive?
Sorry for all the questions and any info/advice on the place would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to HT!

If you enter 'Levi' in the search box (top of page) you'll find a fair amount of info in various topics ;)

If anyone would like to post a review for the Crazy Reindeer Hotel, please do so HERE. Thanks.

Pippy I'd love to submit a resort review/review of Crazy Reindeer, but we went in March 2005 and the review page only goes back to 06.

so in brief, we stayed at Crazy Reindeer in an apartment for upto 5 people. The room was great although the mezz floor upstairs small. Stairs up to it were VERY steep! Each room has its own sauna, which was a lovely plus point after a days skiing.......

the food was excellent and good quality. Child facilities excellent, well catered for at night with a small play area in the main dining room. Our son was 5 when we went.

Its a bit of a walk to the slopes, but pleasant in the fresh air. Took about 15 mins with a 5yr old in tow (We soon bought a sledge for him to sit on) and we left our skis down at the main ski slope. Great place. Would go back in a flash.

hello everyone again

we are going back to lapland on the 17th feb 08 as we loved it so much when we were there at christmas. also if anyone is interested there is a new forum all about lapland and the more members the better, espcially if you can give valuable infor for anyone requesting it, the more knowledge the better (not trying to take anyone away from here by the way - it's just another place to go to) anyhow it's at laplandforum.com.

Hi, am new to site so i am not sure how i go about getting the advice i need.
Myself my hubbie and our 2 children aged 14yrs and 8yrs are looking at booking an over the Christmas 4 or 5 night break to LAPLAND For 2008. Please can anyone tell us the best people to book with, the best resorts, prices etc ,we would really like to go full board in the hope it saves us money in the long run as we have heard that food is very very expensive. We don't mind if we are not in a particularly sking orientated resort as we are not big skiers. Please can someone advise us ASAP as i think places get booked really quickly!!!!!!.
Thanks in advance. :)

Hello dedo

We booked with First Choice when we went - stayed in Rovanemmi in Hotel Santa Clause. We actually were there all over the Christmas period too. It was a very well organised trip from start to end.
I actually am a little biased as have always travelled with First Choice (Or eclipse Direct) and never had any problems, but it still may be worth your while waiting for other suggestions to compare

Hi Sunseeker1,
thanks for your reply. :tup
i am actually waiting for the First choice brochure to be delivered at the moment so i can't wait to browse through it now.Did you have to book really early to get your spaces.
Was your trip as magical as you would have dreamed it was going to be, and what was the food like (i have fussy kid's).

Hello Dedo

Welcome to HT.
Have you looked at Inghams?? They did do 4/5 night santa breaks for 2007 so would assume they will do it for 2008/09?
We went with Inghams but in the end went for a week because it was so much cheaper. We then booked our own excursions when there. We went half board the first time and found it all fine. Stayed in a beautiful village called Yllas. Rovaneimi is very popular and a tad commercialised, also cannot always guarantee snow (we had friends who did a 3 day trip to Rovaneimi and had no snow at all) :yikes

First Choice yes do also do shorter trips, but again just be careful of cost.
Lapland is very magical, and am sure you will enjoy it very much

Thanks for your advice theenchanted1 :tup
Can you please give a rough idea of the price you paid for the week ,including the extra excursions you booked on arrival. Also is there a particular hotel/apartment complex that you would recommend.
thanks again.
