Many thanks
Yes I did. It was great - no problems whatsoever. There are 2 villa Iliana's next to each other - a 3 bed and a 2 bed. We had the 2 bed so for your party you may be better off with the 3 bed - didn't see what that was like but ours was lovely
Thanks for your prompt response and the reassurance. It certainly helps when you are booking blind.!!
Did you take any personal snacks/flasks of drink for the kids?
we haven't told our daughter yet want to keep it as a surpirse
if anyone has any tips/things we should or shouldn't do please let me know !
thanks
Hope you have a wonderful time I am sure you will. We are off next week to Yllas for 4 nights can not wait. Have been checking the webcams to see all the snow which makes it even more magical. Take plenty of batteries as the cold seems to effect them. Also check accuweather.com as the weather is going to be very cold. But above all enjoy yourselves.............
Don't wash before going on a long day out if its very cold. Your skins oil will protect you the best from the cold.
Take plenty of lipbalm.
When you advise there is a hut to the right of the hotel, is that standing on the inside or outside and how far is it away? will we need torches?
Apologies for so many questions.
I think your 2-year-old will be fine as long as you have all the appropriate clothing for him, and understand that there will be some activities that you cannot take him on. We are going to lapland with our two children aged 3 and 15 months, I think that as long as you are sensible and don't keep them outside for long periods of time there is no reason why young children shouldn't go to lapland, afterall Finnish people have babies aswell!
I would suggest that you go to Levi as this resort has a creche, so if there is an activity that your eldest son wants to do and you can't take your youngest, he can go to the creche.
After all you would not leave a child at home when on a summer vacation, if they were 2. The reason they advise not under 2's is because of the extreme weather, and this is just to cover themselves. A 2 year old is fine to take!
Personally I would take euros. We are going next week. As for drinks they are very expensive so I plan to fill our suitcases up the weight allowed with cartons of drinks for the children plus some snacks. You will have a fab time.
We went two years ago and are going again next week. Although there were not many really young on our trip, you do have to layer the young ones well. The cold is a different cold if that makes sense, a more dry cold. We were warned that children will cry because of the cold, we ourselves found that out because we had booked the holiday at the very very last minute only took "waterproof" trousers for our 4 year old. He cried and cried on the first adventure out even though he had plenty of thermals and layers, but fortunately we were able to hire a proper all in one suit at the hotel. I do think parents are the best judge of when to take their child and I am sure that all the youngsters will have a good time, come to think of it so will the "old" young at heart youngsters. Enjoy and look forward to hearing your opinions.
I don't believe that just because you have young children, your family holiday each year, for 16 years should be to Butlins! Although, some people may like this, whatever floats your boat, holidays are a personal choice.
Currently looking at the first Choice 5 day Christmas break at he Snow Elf hotel in Yllas. Has anyone stayed there, as most people seem to be recommending the Snow Princess, but the reason i`m interested in the Snow Elf is that it has a pool. Also as regards booking excursions, I saw somewhere that to book them through the hotel is a lot cheaper than going through First choice. Do they get booked up quickly or can you do it the previous day, or even on the same day
Fantastic hotel, food is great, first choice trips and excursions you have to do as they are fun filled. We took our grandson, 5yrs, he will remember this trip always it was just pure magic. we all need a rest now!
Have been looking at the day trips from Newcastle and there seems to be availability on a few dates. We have never been before and our children are 10 and 7 and I think that this is the last year my 7 year old will believe, but dont think our finances would stretch to the full cost.
Anyone had a good deal, how much did you pay and how late did you leave it to book.
Thanks
However do not worry about that. Their were honeymoon couples, grandparents alone and all ages. Infact very few young children. There is so much to do in the snow with sports etc.
We found it cheaper to go longer. Infact we went for 5 days and it worked out about £200 more than for 1 day!!
Booked in October with First Choice. Try http://www.eclipsedirect.co.uk -their sister company.
So if you do not find a good deal- always consider another year- ages are no worries!
Good luck though!
Would definatly recommend it- we now would like to visit different parts of Finland in the snow.
Did you buy the DVD of Lapland whilst there? It is also fascinating to see in the Summer months- especially the lakes which were totally frozen when we went.
Also we spent the same amount of time there as you and were really tired on our return
