The Meridian Suites look nice, but a bit expensive for the dates I looked at. What about the Desert Rose Resort? It looks comparable, but considerably cheaper and only a block from the strip, down near the MGM.
However the 2 blocks from the strip on Flamingo would take you to centre strip whereas the 1 block would take you to south strip which is a 15-20 mins walk to centre strip.

They look the same distance as Ellis Island so I reckon a 15-20 mins walk to the strip.
What about the Tuscany Suites? They look to be in the same location. However I have just read a bit about their casino which was described as a dive.
I'm sure there are ones called Embassy Suites, but I've no idea where they are. Will check if you are interested.
On the strip you have Polo Towers near the Planet Hollywood hotel and the Jockey Club just south of the Bellagio. I think these are either timeshare or owned by individuals, but it is possible to rent them.

http://www.theplatinumhotel.com I think). Next door to Platinum I suppose is Ellis Island (from memory). This would be Koval Ln? Continue along Flamingo and you will come to Tuscany Suites on your right also. I think Meridian might be quite big as it's low rise, so may continue along flamingo until opposite tuscany. Then you have some restaurants along there, and then where Key Largo used to be right at Paradise Road. Paradise road is a brisk 20 minute walk I'd say. I think you could get to the others in just over 10 mins. Depends how hot it is though, how brisk you would be walking!!
Ok, across Paradise Road you have Terrible's. If you go up Paradise road North you would eventually come to the Hilton but quite a walk. If you go south on Paradise you will come to Hard Rock, but again a bit of a walk.
We know this area resonably well as we've stayed at Westin Casuarina twice (which has 25c roulette and $1 craps sun-thurs till 10pm I think by the way! They also used to do deals $40 chips for $25 etc. Not sure if this still happens.
As you walk along flamingo (to the west), you will walk along past Bally's which is quite deep as the main building runs along flamingo road, and there's an entrance to the Sports book back there, and you can also access the monorail through there. Then on the left you will pass Westin Casuarina (just past Bally's sports book), then there will be a junction (the street where Ellis Island is) and you have Meridian on the left just after the junction. On the right just after the junction you have Platinum (also look at this by the way! Ok, across Paradise Road you have Terrible's. If you go up Paradise road North you would eventually come to the Hilton but quite a walk. If you go south on Paradise you will come to Hard Rock, but again a bit of a walk.

Shouldn't that be "to the east" Lesley?

Luci - going to look at your other recommendations now - thanks.
HERE for booking up to 1 May.
I have just booked 5 nights for the end of April although I was really hoping for something for Planet Hollywood. I can cancel without penalty up to 48 hours before arrival.
Remember to try the $20 trick at check in and you may get upgraded to a fountain view room free of charge which is normally an extra $50/night. http://www.frontdesktip.com

The Bellagio's normal rate is around $229 Sun-Thurs so £444 for 4 nights is about average. There is a Winter Offer on at the moment of rooms from $169 I have just booked 5 nights for the end of April although I was really hoping for something for Planet Hollywood. I can cancel without penalty up to 48 hours before arrival.

PS - what is it you like about PH, as you know we haven't a clue and are not into gambling in a big way but will be going into casinos for experience and booze.
There's nothing special about the PH, but they often have very good rates which is the attraction. Leaves more money for shows, meals and gambling. The hotel and casino has been completely refurbished and we did a bit more gambling there last time although the slots were tight.
When we first stayed there 2 years ago we could have got a room for $49, but took the $79 one to guarantee us a fountain view room. Last May we booked the cheapest room at $59 and were upgraded using the $20 trick to a fountain view room for 9 nights. In November we were $69 and were again upgraded to a resort room with a fountain view. I am hoping to get it for $79 in April, but their offers aren't out yet.
Most of their offers are for player's card holders only so it is worth signing up to all the player's clubs as you should get offers by email should you decide to go back.
Sign up for offers on the Venetian website as they are very good at sending out email offers although I haven't seen one for a while.

but only up till March!
You guys will have to be patient!!! (I'm one to talk )
Hmmm I didn't get that one. The last one I got was for the Palazzo at $199 and the one before that was in August. Wonder if I should sign up again? Think I'd better.
I'd deffo sign up Luci as I've had at least one offer a week for both the Palazzo and the Venetian since returning home at the end of Nov 07 Some of the deals have been great......unfortunately we wont be heading back this year though, too many other hols already planned for 2008
Thanks Miss_Chief, I've just signed up again incase they've lost my details. Can't understand how they could as I got loads of emails last year and one this week for the Palazzo, just nothing for the Venetian.
I take it you would consider Pallazzo also then? I wondered if the extra capacity might have meant better offers at both? But then Pallazzo will attract guests not only from Venetian I suppose. I'd love to get either of them for my next stay!
Think I'll change the title of this post to Vegas hotels seeing as we've gone wildly off topic! Then Pippy can merge it with the existing hotels topic.

Oap - I see 2 bad review on TA. One sounds like a businessman who planned a bit of showing off, and wasn't impressed enough. The other complains about restaurants and taxis, but that wouldn't be a concern to me. Other reviews are really good. It's voted number 2 in their popularity index, so can't be that bad. I also like the look of Signature, but the price isn't right for the packages. I'd be £1429 for a room for 3 nights plus flights (compared to £1282 at platinum).
You can currently get 4 nights in Bellagio direct from the hotel for £442 at the beginning of June, my suggestion would be book this now, so you know you have it. Then keep looking for deals all the way up to a week or so before you go. Most strip hotels allow you to cancel direct bookings with them up to only 48 hours before you are due to arrive so you can easily cancel when you see something better (which you will)!! a lot of people on this forum do this.
A couple of good sites to keep an eye on are -

http://hotels.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-hotels/
Keep an eye on the latest deals listed on there.
On a side note, I've just booked my flights for September, with Virgin for £546. I was disappointed with Flight Centre, they advertised Virgin flights on my dates for £499 and when I tried to book they came out at over £550 each! (sorry to mention flights on a hotel thread) Will book the hotel in a few months time!
Cheers,
TC
We tend to go for the IP at the weekends as prices elsewhere are usually $300/night and up.
I did have a reservation for the Bellagio at $169, but cancelled that when I got the MGM deal.
Been trying to get a deal for our last 2 nights, but there hasn't been a decent offer anywhere even though it's only 10 weeks away and they should have been out by now. We were hoping for something at the Bellagio or Venetian, but the rates were well over $200 for mid-week.
Last night I had a successful bid on Priceline for a 5* property North Strip and got the Palazzo! Although I've never really considered it, I'm quite excited to be staying at a brand new hotel. It only officially opened on 17 January.
The suites are large at 720 sq ft with electrically operated drapes and sheers and there is maid service twice a day with turn down service.
I bid £100/night ($194) and the rate on their site is $538 for the 2 nights. I may have got it cheaper, but was willing to pay £100 with all the rates I've checked being so high.
I'm chuffed to finally have all the rooms booked as I was getting quite anxious that there weren't any offers for those dates. Just need to sort out which shows we'll be seeing.

That is fantastic!!! I'm looking at priceline for Palazzo too for September but i've done a few bids and no luck whatsoever. There are also no rates yet on their website, so I think I need to be patient!!
I am keen to hear how you liked it though - trip report will definitely be required! After that it will only be about 5 months till I go.
How much did you bid Lesley and did you use Priceline.com or co.uk?
