we've just come back from Stalis had a great time, we did not stay at Latania this year but have stayed there before had a great time they are very friendly. We had some friends that stayed there this year and there only gripe was that the Karioke went on till about 3.00 am the one time.

Hi All.
Thinking of going to Stalis summer 2005. Would appreciate any comments about the resort. Is the beach nice and is it safe for children to swim, is there plenty of choices when dining out and is it a party on down kind of place, or nice and relaxed (which we prefer)
Look forward to your replies.

hi
Stalis is fab, it's not party time it's nice and comfortable, plenty of bars to people watch and there are pubs with things for the kids to do try the beachcomber Bar they have a playground for the kids.
The beaches in Stalis are great you can walk out quite a way before it goes deep it is great for the children.
There is lots to see and do if you have the time and money (this year it was 57 euros) try the boat trip to Santorini we really enjoyed that. We hired a car and visted lots of the place Vai beach, sitges, Moni Prevali, Reythmanon and espcially at the back of Stalis the lasttisue plataue.

So there is plenty to see and do if you want it or you can relax on the great beach also try the Sun Beach at Malia this is great for the children.

Thanks for the info Sue. It sounds ideal. I thought Malia was a clubbing resort? not that it will effect us. I shall start to browse the brochures. We like to go sightseeing, and from what you said, it seems Stalis is a good starting point. Have the prices been hiked up since the euro was introduced? A typical meal out for two adults and two children, and what a large bottle of beer costs. Thanks again for the info.

Malia is the clubbing resort but the Sun Beach is outside of malia and as I said is great for the kids, no car parking charges the use of the swimming pools and paddling pools theres trampolines and play area. all you have to pay for are the sun beds and umbrellas.
We stayed in the Anemi aprtments through the Portland brochure, they are great the only draw back the pool is quite deep no shallow end as such. The people that run it are great there is a pub/resturant on the fron called the Rose and Crown the food was good there.
Beer prices varied in the different bars but approx 2 euros for large glass of their lager the food again dependant on what you ate but a typical meal for two was around 20-25 euros again it depends what you order english pubs have as you can imagine the sunday lunches and pie and chips.
I think most countries that have got the euro have hiked the prices up we found Cyprus a lot dearer than Greece.
I can send you some photos if you like.

Hi Sue.
It all sounds great, cheers. The prices seem to have gone up a little, but hey! it's a holiday. We have just returned from Turkey thats two years on the trot now. It's a fantastic country, but we seem to be pining for Greece again. Some photos would be lovely Sue.

Garry.

i stayed here last yr in the studios and hated it. i went with 2 friends and one of them couldnt stand it so she went home after 4 days!!!! the hotel is dirty and our room wasnt ready wehn we arrived so as we was unpacking the maid was cleaning around us changing dirty sheets and washing dishes, which i thought was awful. the hotel is on a very busy road which is very annoying to get acros to the beach. the owner of the hotel is never around when u need her i saw her once and that was when we arrived. the pool is the smallest pool ive ever seen and was packed with people i never bothered goin in. the complex is tiny wiv no entertainment apart from 1 kareoke night which is rubbish part of the hotel is set above a shop not sure if its the apartments or the studios very scruffy hotel !!!!! sorry to disappoint you but i'd cancel if i was you to avoid having a bad holiday!!!

We have booked to stay at the Latania Studios at the start of September this year. Some of the forums have mixed reviews about these studios i just wondered if anybody could enlighten us as they were meant to be refurbished. Also this is our first holiday to Crete and would be grateful if anybody could tell me the basics like how much is a pint, how hot will it be on 2nd Sept and the best places to eat in Stalis. Any replies would be gratefully received, many thanks
