Latchi-Polis-Paphos & Surrounding Areas HELP !!!!

Hi Everyone,
Hope you are all ok and looking forward to your holidays or just got back and still on a high (or maybe not with our weather at moment).
Anyways i have been to Cyprus before and love it did Protaras/Ayia Napa Aug/Sept 2002. And Paphos April 2004. Anyway enough of the waffle i am looking for a little help.......
We are do to come next week staying in a villa in Latchi and was wondering if you could point me in the right direction of a genuine supermarket that locals shop at ?
Also the one thing we really liked when in Protaras was the wonderful beaches and when in paphos thats what was lacking but made up for in the more traditional things and we had a fab time exploring in a car went up the troodos mountains etc.
But i was wondering if there was any lovely sandy beaches with nice calm clear waters like in protaras but on this side of the island? (I really dont like shingly beaches.

) And would like a couple of days at nice beaches. I have been to coral bay and although it was nice at the time it was loaded with diggers.
I have also been reading on the internet that snakes are a big thing in cyprus even though i have never seen one before but am extremely worried about this, and i am getting very apprehensive

they are like one of my biggest fears, sorry to sound daft and silly.

Blue bay which is not far away has a nice beach,as for snakes only seen them in the reptile zoo,think they are found in the akamas region mainly.Relax,have fun..

Thanks for your reply i will definately check out Blue Bay, Thanks for reassuring me about the snakes although i was really looking forward to exploring the Akamas National Park (think i will still head there just be on the look out a bit more, lol)

Papantoniou Supermarket opposite debenhams, which is literally a stones throw down a side street from the big car park next to the harbour in paphos.

I don't think you'll see snakes even in the Akamas unless you go looking for them. They are fairly shy and tend to avoid humans.

OK not like the one in my garden this morning, with both our cats backing off...you will have every chance of seeing a snake, but they will not bother you if you don't bother them!!.. just don't walk over open scrub land!!

Thanks for every ones reply and advice........Jim you have throughly freaked me out even more now. Lol.
I think i am more worried with us staying in a villa, i keep imaging i will be laid on a lilo in pool relaxing when all of a sudden one will appear or i be out on patio at evening or early morning before bf gets up and one will get me lol. I know sounds daft....

Is this the first time you have seen one Jim ? Where abouts do you live is it very rural?

What a lovely name! Anyway, stay off the island if you are afraid of snakes, both my wives were bitten by snakes but one survived. And you wouldn't believe how long it took me to collect the creatures! Personally, and this is only my view, I tend to be more wary of the sharks. Although let's be honest, after a few beers :glynis

who is really put off going into the water with Great Whites. I just wish I had time to mention the spiders, but the number of deaths is definetly going down each year now.

Honestly though, this will be our 14th. year over there and we have seen 2 snakes, both of which couldn't get out of our way fast enough! Neither of them were anywhere near us either, they were both seen from the jeep we were in at the time, and it was in rough ground. You will not come across any in the places people normally go through, infact as Jimbox says, keep out of the scrub and you will be fine.

I am ten minutes from Pafos downhill, and it is far from rural, in fact there is huge building work going on over the road from me...see webcam on Cyprusliving link below, don't worry about the snakes you are very unlikely to see any,(but not impossible) the posters above are correct they are shy creatures and also there is only the blunt nosed viper that is dangerous, and yes I do see snakes often we all do who live here, taxis drivers and drivers here in general are far more dangerous, don't worry just have a good time....

Hi,

Seeing as you are in Polis/latchi area then you should go to Baths of Aphrodite.

If you drive up to Baths of Aphrodite (the baths themselves well large puddle) are disappointing but the walk along the tops of the cliffs offers some breathtaking views.

Go down to the small cove underneath the tourist pavilion there and do some snorkelling. Fantastic.

I have seen one snake in Cyprus and that was when we bought our holiday home and were clearing the weeds from the patio. I put my hand in ony to be greeted by what I thought was a black hosepipe except it wasn't a hosepipe, I've never jumped so much in my life and it was only about a metre long.

Just got out of the way as fast as it could. Now I am not so naive and would always be on the lookout if walking near scrub.

My sister-in-law saw a couple of very large snakes in the Troodos crossing the road.

I doubt you will see a snake, they do not come looking for you.

Yes the Baths of Aphrodite is on my to do list, we didnt do it last time. I did do the troodos mountains and didnt see any snakes, in fact i haven't seen a snake either time i have been there, it was just i was reading a article on the web and thats what as put the fears up me. lol. Im sure i will be fine, but if you happen to hear the most high pitched scream at all day or night between the 3rd and 17th July then you know i have encountered one. lol.

Does anyone know why instead of just the emoticon image it comes up with javascript emoticon and then the image?
