I've been told that dress code in general is pretty relaxed. They don't advise wearing anything too flesh revealing outside your hotel if you're a woman - apparently people won't be offended as it'll be obvious you're a tourist but you might feel uncomfortable as you will more than likely be ogled by a good few men !
The Burj does have a strict dress code for men - you have to wear a shirt and tie, jacket and closed shoes. I was looking at booking a meal at the Burj before i go but apparently if you're in a good hotel they'll get you a sample menu to look at and make the reservation for you.

We are booked for August 25 this year and have booked into Le Meridian Hotel which is at the airport. We had been booked at the Jebel Ali but was advised to change because of the building work. Has anyone been to Le Meridian and will we suffer from the effects of the airport. Is the hotel really 5 star?

we stayed at le royal meridien in august last year and met some people there who were staying at the meridien by the airport. You can get a hotel shuttle bus aparantly which will take you to le royal meridien to use the beach as it is the same hotel group. They were very happy with their hotel as far as i can remember they didnt have any complaints.

Dont worry, all hotels in dubai are top class and le meridien hotels are wonderful !!

When we were there there was building work ( loads of it!!!) but it was quiet, no noise at all in our hotel and although you can see it it didnt bother us. We cant wait to go back!!! We would definately stay in the same hotel again, it was perfect!!

The Meridian at the airport is definitely five star, its a lovely place, really nice restaurants and even an Irish bar (Dubliners). Staying by the airport isnt a problem, all the good hotels here have superb insulation, you wont hear the planes at all. Directly opposite the meridian is the millenium hotel which also has some excellent restaurants, just 5 mins walk.
The meridian is first class, dont fret at all about it.

Thank your for your replies. I appreciate your comments. Is it better to use a credit card for paying for items or would we be better taking dirhams with us for paying for meals, presents etc? DOes anyne know how many dirhams you get to the pound?

A Dirham is about 15 pence so you can divide the cost in Dirhams by 7 to find out what it costs in pounds. Or if you count 10 Dirhams as being £1.50 its an easier sum.
We took some with us on our trip because you need it for taxis etc., but for anything else we used credit cards, you get a better rate of exchange anyway.

Hi,

I've just booked my flights for an 8 night stay in Dubai towards the end of November and really can't decide which room to book in the hotel I've chosen.

If anyone has been to this hotel would you be able to advise what's best, a Club or Tower Room.

Alternatively, if you've been and wouldn't recommend this hotel then again please let me know as this will be our first trip to Dubai and we want it to be a good one.
