Just before Christmas me and my husband went to Aviemore and got a 4 hour ski lesson. I absolutely loved it and would now love to go abroad and learn. I have had a look on loads of sites but as I have never done anything like this before I dont have a clue what to look for. Can you please help me?
I would love to go on a 7 night package holiday which includes lessons with an English speaking instructor,ski-hire, passes etc. Also I would love to go somewhere really smowy (as its my first time) and would like my accomodation within walking distance of the ski lifts. It would also\have to be somewhere which is good for beginners.
Can you go ski-ing any month of the year even abroad or do you have to go nov-march?
Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Dont know if this helps but we have been to Lapland twice in february and if you dont have to go during school holidays it is a relatively cheap fab place for beginners , empty slopes, great people and loads of things to do for non skiers - reindeer rides, husky safaris, snow mobiles. We have stayed at Yllas in Lapland and it is a magical place to visit. There are places in Lapland where you can ski from the door -- at Yllas Saaga the hotel is right by the slope ! I think it is the same for Iso Syote -- try looking through Inghams, first Choice and Thomsons!
Have a look on tripadvisor.co.uk for reviews as well as here if it helps
What we loved was that they are such peaceful places for people who have little ski experience - so if you fall over everyone is first of all concerned to check that you get up ok and only then do they laugh with you ! We are on the photos of 2 japanese tourists who clicked away merrily as we hurtled past them horizontal!
Could go on and on to tell you how good it is ---- nearly forgot ---- there is guaranteed snow right by your door from about Dec - March or even later on in the year.
If you want any info just ask or pm and I will give more info re where we stayed and where you can find more pictures etc
hi presto2 i went skiing for the first time last year with my husband and 15 year old son we stayed in alpbach in austria which was beautiful. we booked a package with inghams and they were brill ,everything is booked for you including ski school for 6 days, skis, poles, boots. we had a 10 min bus ride to the nursery slopes in the village but because we went in march it was beginning to melt, so the instructor took us up the mountain to the more gentle slopes.we were in a group of about 8 people and had a good laugh because we were all in the same boat, but what we learned in 6 days was amazing fom not being able to stand up in skis to just about getting to a red run.we are going to austria again on saturday to obergurgl which we had recommended to us.hope this helps a bit
We went to St Wolfgang 3 years ago for our first snow holiday and mainly because of knee problems fell in love with cross country skiing ---------- it isnt asd easy as it looks!
Have a great holiday - am jealous
