If you don't want Indian - Soumyen's Kitchen!

The best looking steaks I saw in Goa were in the Thai Oriental in Calangute. ( and I ate in Soumyens too !)

Le Jardin on Holiday Street next to Goan Heritage, excellent food try the pate` for starters followed by fillet steak with a choice of sauces the mashed potato is a must.
I cant think of anywhere else with a nicer setting than this in goa , we usually visit at least three times each holiday.

Souymens ?
Coming from Candolim towards Calangute there is a temple that has been extended on the left hand side of the road(just before samsonite shop ) Souymens is on the right hand side about 150yards down a dark lane they used to have a guy with a huge oil lamp to guide you to the restaurant but I never saw him over new year.
Souymen was one of the origional chefs from After 8 (now After 7) excellent food spotlessly clean but not the nicest of settings.

Prices roughly on par with Souymans, cost us about £15 a head that was 3 courses and 3 budweisers 3 vodka & 3 diet cokes .
I know there are a lot cheaper places to eat but it is a bit special.

The Bistro (opp. Whispering Palms) is a nice place to eat and the steaks are excellent but agree that Chef Soumyen's food is even better and he does make you feel special but the setting is not as good

Soumyen's Kitchen is opp. Jambleshwar Temple, Calangute.... phone +91-832-2276160 / 9226481417

East meets West in Baga was our favourite special place but have not been since Jenny died and have not seen many reports this season

Scorpion.......Thanks for the information re prices at Le Jardin, sounds great for a special night out.......I've never managed to eat 3 courses in all the years I have been to Goa so looks like my bill would be a little cheaper :tup Might go in there next time me and hubby are out there together and it's only around the corner from where we stay so easy distance to "stagger" home after all the honeybees :D
