Does not bode well for next year - European Capital of Culture 2008
Anyone thinking of visiting their scouse friends should have a look at the line up of stars appearing next year!!!!
Phil Redmond is now organising the events for next year and it promises to be very interesting/exciting.
Ringo kicks off Liverpool's Culture Capital year
Liverpool is poised for a year-long tourism boom as it takes the stage as European Capital of Culture.
The first of a year-long programme of more than 350 events starts tonight with a People's Opening including a rooftop performance by Ringo Starr.
Around 30,000 people are due to attend the city centre launch show.
The city's Capital of Culture status is expected to attract an extra two million visitors in 2008 and boost the economy by £100 million.

Hopefully the capital of culture title will have the same lasting effect for the city as when Glasgow held the title and is still reeping the rewards.
Just like to say very PROUD of my City on Friday and Saturday, may this be the start of a great year 2008.
I agree with Hobo our city done us proud cant wait for the new development to open in May, it will certainly rival another city down the M62.

Also the Matthew Street/Beatles festival has an increased budget this year of £750k with at least 5 outdoor city centre stages

I can see a lot of school kids walking around town going Superlambanana spotting during the Summer holidays.
aw no ,only in Liverpool do we take pride in superlamborenana
Superlamb boring, :think, just notice the people taking photo's around each location.Boring no.Proud of yes, as a modern piece of sculpture.By the way did you know that it was created to warn of the dangers of genetically modified food.
Hobo
I have no problem in taking pride in a civic arts project that has made an icon accessible to all - especially children.
I am no Brian Sewell but I cannot see any artistic virtue in a giant yellow banana but I suppose they must be of interest to many people just not me sorry
................... and Liverpool was one of the centres for unloading produce from the Caribbean - hence bananas.
And us Scousers love our wordplays and puns! Friends and family back home in Liverpool seem universally united in loving the lambananas in their various incarnations around the city. There's one at the end of the street where my Mum and Dad live and the locals have so taken to it that when one of the neighbours noticed some graffiti on it they immediatley organised a clean-up posse of locals to restore it to its original pristine condition.
We've got one just around the corner from us-------------Brill
Everywhere you go you come across one. I like the mosaic one. One was stolen and I understand a ransom note sent in !!!
The ships will be docked at various places around the Mersey Basin but mainly at the Albert and Wapping docks.
All events free
I love the superlambananas, its something the city have taken to its heart and it makes everyone smile
Free entry.
Racing from about 11.00am
Chance also to see the Albert dock lambananas before they are due to leave at the end of August
