Getting to see a doctor is easy and cheap in Goa, you can phone for an appointment or just call in the local hospital
My wife felt unwell when we was in Anjuna and we went to the hospital near the petrol station, the doctor check her over and concluded she was suffering from dehydration in part caused by the mossie tablets she was taking along with her blood pressure tablets. He then insisted on check me over as well and he recommended that we both started taking re-hydration salts every day and used a different blood pressure tablet as the ones we use contained a diuretic. He asked us to go and see him the same time the next day and when we went back he check us over again and presented his bill of 50 Rps each
Tell your hubby to sort out his insulin while in England, I postponed going on to insulin because I was going to Goa for a month, you cannot take any chances at all with insulin, when you first go onto insulin you need to keep in touch with your on a weekly basis or you can have major problems.

Sorry should read, keep in touch with your doctor.
Just to re-iterate, he isn't currently on insulin and hopefully shouldn't be for some time BUT if he should be established and stabilised on insulin via our UK GP sometime in the future and he is then unable to get sufficient insulin supplied for a long term visit to Goa, would he then be able to buy it there? Hope I have made myself a bit clearer - and this clarifies things. Thanks. Fizz

Thanks Danny, that's good to hear. Will bear in mind about the needles, hubby doesn't test very often at the moment (so doesn't get through them that quickly) but if he does eventually need to go onto insulin he will need to test more frequently so that could be a bit of a worry. Fizz
this info is very useful re diabetic medication, as my hubby is on two different insulins plus metformin and glimepiride. We are going for 6 weeks this time so will his doctor prescribe for that length of time with no worries? He has a slow-release pen (once daily) and a fast-acting pen (after meals), and uses test strips with his blood tester. If he runs out can he get any of this in Candolim please? I have been very worried about his medication, and our luggage is mostly packed with all of this stuff, again just so glad that Kingfisher have 45 kgs. we went with Kingfisher last january/february and booked with them again this time.
I think you should take the bull by the horns and ask your GP sooner rather than later, if only to stop you worrying. Our practice will automatically give out 3 months without having to resort to seeing the GP so we are going to have to make an appointment to see him as we are away for 6 months. My husband is also diabetic but only takes tablets. I am informed by someone I contacted on another Goan site that his medication is available in Goa (which includes Metformin) but we would need to have our prescriptions with us as an the doctors out there will need to see these before they will give us an local prescription.
Good luck.
