Hi there

understand completely what you're going thru'. My case was lost on my flight out to my holiday in Athens last year. I did eventually get my case returned to me 23 days later, after arriving back in the u.k.

Dont give up hope and keep us all posted.

I assume you completed a 'lost luggage' report when you arrived back in Ireland.

Which airline did you fly with?

Thanks bigstego i willxx. Polly I flew woth Futura. I did fill out a PIR report and have now sent off my claim details. I spoke with Cork Airport yesterday and they said they got through to Madrid but they have hundreds of unclaimed suitcases so i just gave them a list of what I could remember in there. Will keep you all posted. Thanks for your messages.

I've just noticed that you'd said you flew with Futura in your initial post. Doh!

I don't know how much use the barcode tags are in tracing lost luggage, but I thought it had improved the chances of tracing suitcases.

Nicki, it's not a totally lost cause as one of my sister's cases went missing in Dallas and it wasn't traced until 2 weeks after (it had never left Manchester) but she got it back intact.

I know this is not much help to you now but I always make sure that I have my home address and telephone number inside my case in case it goes missing and the external luggage labels come off.

Hope you have some good news soon.

Hi Nicki

As you have been in this situation you migh be able to answer this -

My daughter and her friend flew from Glasgow to Prague yesterday with FlyGlobespan, their luggage never went with them so they don't have any clothing, toiletries etc.
Am I right in saying that the airline (Globespan) are obliged to pay compensation for reasonable and essential purchases made i.e. underwear, change of clothes, toiletries etc ?

Nicki did you buy any emergency essentials items and then claim a refund from Futura ?

The pair of numptys have forgotten to take the details of their insurance company so they can't even contact them for assistance / advice :whoops

Thanks for any advice

hi graham

My flight was with Flyglobespan, glasgow-athens, and my case was lost going out. Although they are obliged to re-inburse you for essantials etc they refused even though i kept all the reciepts. They just kept telling me to contact my insurers.I phoned the Air transport users council's helpline, who were good at advising me re what my rights were. i wrote a stronger letter to globespan as advised by the atc quoting the correct sections of the legislation. but, they still refused to reimburse me. anyway at this point life took over events and i didnt pursue it any further. However the atc were wiling to take my case up (scuse the pun) and pursue the matter on my behalf. Let us know how it goes and i hope you have better luck with globespan than what i did

Hi bigstego

Thanks for your advice.
They went out and bought a few essential items (underwear, toiletries etc) yesterday morning and they received their cases yesterday afternoon
According to Globespan somebody had taken the wrong cases at the airport :shrug

Anyway I hope you all get your luggage problems sorted quickly.

I am hoping that they find your case. Money is not the issue its personal belongings and uncertainty. Best Wishes. CBG

Surely that would not have been allowed  I mean in the light of events in New York etc, surely each article of baggage must be accompanied by a passenger? That it is a baltant lapes in security and I am surprised the Check In Clerk does not lose his job.

I do hope you get your luggage back Niki, I have been the victim of lost luggage myself and I can appreciate how distressing it is.

Or it's possible the check in guy was just joking.

Yes I would take it with a pinch of salt, especially as it was a letter that was sent/printed from a reader to the Guardian Newspaper, in response to an earlier article regarding lost luggage.. HERE
