just back from a lovely holiday in Turunc, Turkey. we have stayed before in Dalyan and then last year Akyaka, so are moving along the coast line. Turunc is quite delightful although the transfer was a bit of a distance, but i was aware of that. first time ever i booked holiday independantly and i can totally recommend it. flew with Monarch and by booking first flight of day out of gatwick we were first flight into Dalaman, consequently we whizzed through airport, visa paid and stamped, through passport control and cases already on carousal all in 15 mins. i had booked private transfer through J and M travel, based in Turunc, and our driver was waiting for us, tansfer took hour and half but i have heard horrendous reports with package holidays of 3 hours plus :yikes. we stayed at the Burak apartments, owned and run by Ramazan and his family - i found the apartments through holiday truths and they were first class. brilliant location in centre of village. there are only 17 apartments, all cleaned daily, bright and sparkling, with clean linen and fresh towels provided each day. pool, although not huge was immaculate and poolside area cleaned twice a day and adequate sunbeds provided, although a couple staying there for few months still had to earmark their beds in the morning!! no need at all as only a few people sat around pool. one day we had it to ourselves all day, bliss :sun2. Ramazan also ran a small snack bar and bar where you could have a friendly drink and chat about the day before heading off for the evening. it was nice to end the evening there too. the apartments were 1 minute from seafront which was lined with bars and restaurants. there is a small harbour in Turunc with a busy little fleet of boats sailing to and from Marmaris and Ichmeler. lovely selection of restaurants in the village, but our favourite was Bonjuk which is a top end of village and just to left past the Pelin hotel. it is so pretty with turkish carpets decorating the walls and beautiful grape vines tumbling over pergolas, the service is of course, being turkish, exceptional and the food wonderful. if you go try the bonjuk salad as starter, its prepared at the table and is quite delicious, follow it with juicy shish kebabs or fresh grilled sword fish steaks. i guarantee you wont be able to eat at Bonjuk just the once during your holiday! the weather was great despite awful forecasts prior to holiday, hot sunshine temp 28c upto 38c. one evening we had thunderstorm which kicked off about 5pm and caused power cut for 3 hours but all bars and restaurants stayed open with lanterns and cooking on open fires. the week just flew by and i have felt quite bereft since coming home. turunc really is a perfect little holiday destination and Ramazan and his lovely family the perfect hosts.
