Hi Jael,
I am assuming that you are not actually in Luxor as we speak, if you are this reply is a bit late. Also have you already spent some time there already? or will you be comming off a cruise or something like?
Luxor has loads of things for you to do that can take from several hours to a full day. here are some suggestions:
Visit the Luxor Museum of Ancient Art, good for 1 to 4 hours.
Visit the Mumification Museum good for 1 to 2 hours.
Go and have afternoon tea at the Old Winter Palace. say 2 hours
Have a look around Karnak Temple. 2 to 6 hours
Have a look around Luxor Temple, 1 to 2 hours
Get a taxi to Crocodile Island and have an ice cream at the Movenpick Hotel.
Go to any of the hotels and chill out for a couple of hours at the bar.

Cheap, good, safe food: Try, 7 Days 7 Ways up near the Sheraton Hotel.

Hi Tez

Thanks a lot for your helpful reply. No, we are not in Luxor already we go in May but the airline have just changed the return flight time which means we will have quite a long time between vacating our cabins and going to the airport (I guess about 7 hours). We will have been to the Luxor and Karnak Temples as part of the holiday but your other suggestions are most welcome.

I don't know how relevant this will be to others who have to leave their boats well ahead of their flight time and so have the problem of what to do with their luggage, but I am advised by Libra Holidays that cabins are vacated soon after lunch but for a small fee ($10) they can be kept longer (not able to discover how much longer!).

Jael,
I think that you may be worrying unnecessarily, It is usual for people to leave the tour boat at different times, as their destinations and return flights often vary. I think that you will find that unless your return flight is so late that the cruise boat has another passenger waiting for your cabin, then they will just leave you alone until your tour operator collects you. You may have to pay for any extra drinks or food onboard. I would also say that it is the responsibility of your tour operator to see to your needs between having to vacate the boat and your trip back to the airport. You have booked a holiday on a Nile Cruiser with a flight at each end, it is not up to you to have to make arrangements for baggage etc. because their flight is delayed, I would be back onto them if I were you.

Hello again Tez

Thanks for your reassuring comments! Why does it always seem so logical and obvious when some else says it ? I really appreciate being able to get unbiased, friendly advice from people like you who have clearly been there and bought the t-shirt (or should that be 'galabeya'?)

Kind regards

You are most welcome, by the way I have bought two Galabaya's, both tailor made for under a tenner each.

Hi Jael,

My flight was the last one to leave from my boat. I too was planning to 'hang around' in Luxor to check out various places, but unfortunately I was not feeling too well... so I had to stick around the boat for the whole day! I was allowed to stay checked in until 2pm even though most people were out by 12pm. They will put your baggage in the lobby, and was quite safe. They also kept two rooms open for guests to use (for freshening up etc) until departure, altho these did get a bit 'over-used' after a while!

If you do get to spend time in Luxor, I would defintely go to the museum, and basically what Tez mentioned. It may be worthwhile visiting the temple(s) again, as you don't get too much time to take everything in during the visits - sometimes you just want to sit down and marvel at the monuments in front of you...

Have fun!!

Hi Kingericthered (Hope this is ok - don't often address royalty)

Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

I had previously read your report of your own holiday and was so glad to see that, despite the odd disappointment, you were still able to say such positive things and to have had a great time. :thanks

No worries Jael - I am just too willing to share my experience with anyone, as I too relied on other people's experiences before booking and going!

I'm glad you liked the review - that was the shortened version!!

I think it is important to share negatives and positives, otherwise people go into things with heightened expectations! My overall experience as overwhelmingly positive!!
