I thought I'd give credit where its due. We are off to Greece next week and wanted some Euros to see us through the first few days. We went to M&S on Saturday and change our sterling to euros, we changed £500 and received €715.00. The guy counted the euros out for us and we went away (although the count them far too fast.)
Anyhow I don't know why but I was going through my travel bits and bobs last night and counted my Euros (which hadn't been touched since we bought them) and to my horror there were only €615-00. I rang M&S this morning and they said they would check the tills and come back to me. They have just rung to say that the till was only over by 10, but as a gesture of goodwill they would give me the €100...........now thats what I call good customer service.
Well done Marks and Spencer.
I dont know about you Sarah but I would have had the right collywobbles trying to explain what had happened, thinking they might not believe me, what a result.

I almost gave in and didn't ring as we seem to experience so much bad customer service nowadays, I walked out of Carphone Warehouse last week because the sales man was rude, taking into account we were spending quite a large sum of money, I took my business elsewhere, I've had awful service from Thomson in the last few weeks and then went to have my nails done and the nail technician talked on her mobile whilst doing my nails
So M&S were a welcome breath of fresh air, which is why I felt I wanted to post about it on here.
Sarah
I've had awful service from Thomson in the last few weeks
That makes 2 of us then Sarah Thomson are pushing my patience and whilst people point out that the customer can be rude, the boot can indeed sometimes be on the other foot.
Well done to you and M&S ...this IMO is what separates the legit companies from the fly by night money grabbing so & so's, who couldn't give a monkeys about their customers after they have sold the product.
Totally off topic, but I had a similar good experience with Scholl (the shoe makers) during the last few months, their Customer Services were a breath of fresh air and a pleasure to deal with.
Basically, I bought a pair of their sandals from a Farmacia in Torremolinos last year, I had never worn them outside because I found them uncomfortable after a certain length of time, however, one day I noticed the soles had both completely split in identical places.
I was going to throw them in the bin, but decided to contact them via e-mail.
They sent me a free postage label to send the sandals back for their inspection and as these sandals were made for the Spanish market only, they refunded me the amount I had paid for them in sterling via a cheque....otherwise they would have replaced them.
Considering I had no receipt, had them for a year and couldn't even remember the exact price I had paid for them down to the last euro...then I think that was exceptional customer service and far from putting me off buying another of their shoes/sandals, it has done quite the opposite.
If only others would follow M &S and Scholl.
Thomson are you reading this.?

Also but another company giving great customer service is Keycamps, I had to re-organise my holiday for this year and they were exceptionally helpful, even suggesting amendments which would actually save me money.
Very nice of M&S. Did you wonder what happened to the missing 90 euros and how many mistakes were made that day, I`m sure they did.
I did wonder about the money that went missing and I'm do wonder if M&S have their suspicions on where it went i.e. are they watching somebody or has this happened before, however, they really didn't have to offer me the money.
As regular shoppers at our local M&S we do appreciate the customer service they provide, big difference to other stores. Our local branch does not have an exchange so we use a branch of No.1currency for our Euros etc. they give a better rate anyway. Going to Dublin next week and yesterdays rate was 1.434 I couldn`t find better.
Well done M&S - it's nice to hear a good customer service story Sarah as too often we complain about awful service and then forget when we get decent service.
They say if someone recieves good customer service they will tell 4 people , but if they recieve bad service they will tell 10 people, it makes good sense for any business to give good customer service if only for this reason. in the end goodwill costs very little.
Not only do they give good service but save money aswell.just saved £30 on our holiday insurance and we've both got medical probs.
i have dealt with m&s and had really ggod service which is more i can say about thompson i don't think i will ever deal with them again
I still cant forget what M&S did to women who worked in a factory making their clothes near me .They gave them 4 days notice just before Christmas a couple of years ago that they were closing the factory down and relocating to Morocco!.I have never shopped there since.
That may of course not be M&S closing the factory, but the manufacturer producing on behalf of them instead (This has happened over the past 10-15 year - as I should know having been in that industry).
.......Don't know if I'm entitled to do this, but...........
Wrist duly slapped
