Hi there Chulme,we have stayed there on 3 occasions and must say it is a nice hotel and well run with good staff.Only on our last stay did we notice a slight downturn in standards from previous years so (on a friends advice)we had a look at the apartments a few yards up the road and have stayed there ever since.
I must say we made some good friends at the Magnum with the manager 'John' and a lot of the staff who are very nice and look after your rooms ok.Other friends have stayed there since our last visit (and still do) and no complaints from them.
If rooms are available then i would ask for a top floor one with the pool view - has never been a problem to be relocated to another.
The restaurant food is very good, and we make a visit everytime we are back in Goa.The breakfast is also very good with a good choice of Western and Indian.
They have the occasional night with a live local band and the tandoor in full operation (one of the best tandoori's i have had in Goa).
Hotel is situated on the main road but the way it is built, there is very little traffic noise.
If i was stuck for somewhere to go then i would not hesitate in heading back to The Magnum,Spike.
we will be staying in a family room as there are three of us(0ne 14yrold and 2 adults)
we went to goa last march and stayed in the victor exoctica.
there was a large group of us staying at different hotels, all great apart from the Dona Alcina! My mum and dad stayed there and had to move after one night,1st visit to Goa but we did expect some standards!!
me & husb & his mum stayed at the magnum last january (2005) and were quite happy with it - it is basic but cleaned daily & we found all the hotel staff fantastic. ive posted a review on it.
we had been to goa before & knew what to expect for the type of hotel we were booking but have no complaints about the place except it could be a bit noisy at night due to barking furry friends - not that had anything to do with the hotel itself at all.
its in a good location near to everything in the middle of candolim , any more q's please post & i'll answer for you.
we would go back with no hesitation at all except we actually prefer being near calangute when in goa as we like to spend far too long at places like bonnies & babutes bar (nr the kamat & osbourne hotels) so that will be the only reason we dont end up back at the magnum again this year.
Anyone know where it is in candolim, i have a feeling its near guru's can anyone confirm this.
Cheers
allan.
As soon as i said it was next to rambos the wife readily agreed as she loves his jackets
Regards
Peter
My partner also loves Leather Touch and bought six bags of him last time. We ended up having to buy a holdall to get them all home. It will probably be worse this year as her workmates are all putting in orders!!!
Does anyone have an email address for the Magnum ? I've searched everywhere and can't find one.
magnumrs@satyam.net.in
thanks I'll try it
0832 248913/24892399/2489970 or his mobile 9822133991 (unfortunately I do not know the code from UK to India)
best of luck
Ivan
Would you believe I e mailed them yesterday and got a reply this morning. A record by Goan standards
Dialling code from the UK to India is 0091
I've got a holiday booked and im staying in the magnum resort, is the hotel ok? and is it local to bars/restaurants/beach. im a bit of a worrier
Stop worrying - it is not allowed in Goa! Magnum is very central - right on main road with everything you will need close by. Do try Ashokas jewellers next door especially if you are interested in diamonds. Top stuff is not on display but don't let this put you off - the wonders are at the back. You are also close to one of the Elephant Shops - usually best rate for money exchange and everything you might need from Indian sim cards to shampoo!
I have stayed at the Magnum. Some rooms face the street which we loved but some may find it a bit noisy for first thing in the morning. Otherwise it is a typical basic hotel but nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your help everyone... my mind has been put at ease
