Can anyone please tell me, why all the UK major tour operators have pulled out of India , apart from Goa . We have been traveling to south India for a few years now in particular to Kovalam and have found that after April 09, there is no availability with anyone . We find the major tour operators offer the best value for money and that booking independently cost nearly twice as much .

I think the reason could be traced to the merging of all the major tour companies into two mega groups has something to do with it The number of package tourists visiting Goa and Kerala was small compared to other winter destinations in the likes of the Caribbean. Add on to this the recession gathering force and the two groups ability to go where the biggest demand is and you reach the present position

The Goan tourist season always finishes in April.
The shacks and traders stalls get taken down and the most of the good restaurants close before the monsoons start in May/June
