Sorry to hear about all your ongoing problems. I haven't heard jot since I originally changed over to the Sunrise Makadi. I am in a party of 8 and I must admit I was under the impression I was in junior suites but all it says on booking is 3 bedded rooms. I still haven't received an updated invoice that shows the transfer of the deposit from the original booking?? Have I got a holiday Who knows?

I just can't understand how a firm can get away with operating in this manner. There seems little or nothing one can do to be protected from all this turmoil and upset

I would just like to thank everyone on this page who has helped me and my family,I feel I have made some lovely friends Special thanks to chelsea,who has been a great help.
We have changed our holiday due to absolutly NO family rooms at any suitable hotel in Makadi/Hurghada.
I have to say Thomas Cook in the end have been absolutly fantastic I have had 3 team managers and a sales adviser on the phone to me for the past 3 nights they even gave me there direct line (Will not pass it on though) they all know who they are, and THANK YOU so much you have all been so kind and very helpful and I do appologise for me being so angry to you all .
We are now flying from our local airport to Sharm which we love very much and I feel thing`s may have happened for a reason!!! we are staying at the dreams resort and am very sure we will all have a fab time.
I will keep watching for all of your reviews,and will have a cocktail and think about you all.

I got my refund in the post this morning we've booked to go to Kenya to the sun n' sand resort with First Choice.

Sorry to say but I won't be using Thomas Cook group ever again, it has taken an age to sort out, cost me a fortune in phone calls and I firmly believe that their business practices are unethical, in particular their apparant contempt for their customers.

First post for a while, sorry to hear about everyone's woes with trying to go to the Makadi Palace, especially melandmark and big-si. Can't believe that Thomas Cook can get away with it really.

If either of you hear anything from Watchdog, could you let me know, as I'd love to put my "two-pennies-worth" across even though my holiday is now sorted out.

I'm so glad that my wife convinced me, for us to not go to the Royal Makadi Sunrise, it looks as though we wouldn't have got a Family Room/Suite there as promised !!!!

As said in my previous post, we're off to Rhodes in August instead and can't wait... Have a great time everyone wherever you're going !!

Enjoy going to sun 'n' sand in Kenya, we went there 10 years ago (almost to the day) on our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, although there's not really much sand there, more like a coral reef, but the Swimming Pools, with the slides between the Pools, Pool Bar and Hotel are fantastic.

big si and Paul we all must think alike guess where we were 12yrs in June on honeymoon??Sun and sand Kenya!!! You will have a lovely time we really did.
Paul your wife made the right decision from what we have been told there are No family or interconnecting roooms available throughout the summer.
I have yet again had a Thomas cook supervisor on the phone tonight and assured her we are all sorted out with Sharm el Sheikh.
I in the end really can`t fault them.

I have just realised I have been conned. We booked Makardi Palace in January 2007 for 1 week in April 2008 for the silver wedding of one of our party. In February 2008 we were strongly advised to cancel it because of extensive building work near. From reading through this forum I now realise this was not true. I am at present in the middle of a complaint with Thomas Cook (getting nowhere fast) as the alternative hotel we were offered and reluctantly took was not at all up to our expectations or the standard we expected and believe it or not, on arrival, we found it had a building site adjacent. At the time of re-booking we felt very pressured as we wanted to be away for the anniversary and there was not much available at such short notice. I would appreciate any comments on the scope of any building work at the Makardi Palace from any one who has visited this year, or in fact any information that any one thinks may be useful to me to process my claim for compensation.

Sorry to hear about your problems Norman. Looks like they've pulled a fast one on you as even when the building work was at its height you could hardly notice it. Your best bet is to enquire with the hotel yourself. follow the link below.

thanks for your advice and giving me the email address of the Makadi Palace chelsea1. I had tired to find the email address myself but had not managed it. I haved just emailed them. I have also emailed abta for advice on what I may be entitled to but their acknowledgement stated that they may take 21 days to reply so I will just have to wait.

Probably best to call them rather than e-mail. That's what we did when things started getting out of hand with Thomas Cook.

They gave us advice over the phone.... told us to put/get everything in writing, which may be their standard answer, but probably worth a phone call.

Not sure of the number for ABTA, but it's gotta be easy to find on their website.
